Coco & Igor - Not a Bio Pic - but worth Seeing!

If you are expecting a detailed biography film about Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky you will likely be disappointed. On the other hand if you are interested in motivations, artist's insecurities and defining moments in the lives of these two influential twentieth century artists you will likely enjoy this gorgeously filmed movie. The film is a bit long and there are times it even feels "tedious" but the overall scope, score, cinematography and design of the film allow us to overlook some of the over-indulgent aspects. See it or rent it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Step Up 3D Has A Lot of Great Moves! See it!

When the dancing is happening on screen this movie knocks it out of the park. The 3D even makes it better! Step Up 3D takes a "step down" when the dancing stops and the interactive dialogue and the "necessary romantic plot-line" begins. An absolutely must see for the dance visuals in 3D! Exciting and gorgeous to watch!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The First Half of "The Other Guys" Makes it Worthy

If only writer-director McKay had kept doing in the second half what he did in the first half of The Other Guys it would have been a comedy-movie masterpiece. Even so this comedy buddy cop movie is a definite "see it". Will Ferrel's best movie in a long time - maybe his best ever. The supporting cast is okay but, at times, I thought Wahlberg and Keaton were too self conscious. The first half is hilarious and it would be easy to give away too much in a review - so I won't. The movie goes off track a bit in the second half when it begins to focus on big chases and explosions and "big action" when it could have stayed in the funny track it established in the first half, lowered the noise and kept us laughing longer and more. Still - loads of fun!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Charlie St. Cloud is a Bit Too Fluffy for My Taste

On the positive side we can see that Zac Efron is gaining in the acting chops area. He's pretty dog-gone good in this film. We are looking forward to seeing more of him in the future. That said Zac is really the best thing in this movie. A couple of veteran actors are wasted in near throw-away roles. There is very little "meat" on these "movie bones". This is more of what one would expect from a Hallmark TV movie. Nothing so wrong with that except we want more substance from a theatrical release. Skip or rent in a couple of months.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Dinner for Schmucks is a multi-layered laugh-fest

No matter if you fall into the "jerk" category or the "schmuck" category - or somewhere in-between - you should appreciate the humor in "Dinner for Schmucks". Not sure if this film could have been made with anyone but Steve Carrell in the lead role. He is simply great! I laughed almost constantly throughout the movie and my laughter ranged from quiet murmuring chuckles to giggles to several loud guffaws. Enjoyed all of the actors and characters and the broad lesson that is learned. Don't be a schmuck - see it!

Murder Mystery and Mayhem at its Best! See it!

The girl with the dragon tattoo is back and this time the action and violence is even more intense. Loved the first movie in "The Millennium Trilogy" and loved this one as well. We have not read the books but the consensus from those around us in the theater that have read the books was that this is a faithful adaption and they were pleased. There is a unique atmosphere that director Alfredson has created in this movie that really draws in the audience. At times it almost feels like a documentary which amplifies the empathy and attention. Kudos to the actors and the entire team. Noomi Rapace has a great career ahead of her! See it!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Winter's Bone will sere memories into your mind and soul. This hauntingly well-made movie about the journey of a girl through the treacherous Missouri backwoods and the "alien" inhabitants that populate it jumps into TheMovieRhino's top 5 films of 2010. Director Granik and his entire team achieve a masterpiece .... or darn close to it .... with this amazing film. You will experience every emotion watching this journey of the 17 year-old Ree - sadness, fear, joy, anger, pain, optimism, hopelessness, danger, frustration, repulsion, pride, happiness and triumph are all here - wrapped in and around the region, it's native people, their ways and Ree's desperate search. Not to be missed.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

SALT is a Delicious, Tasty Action-movie Treat!

Angelina Jolie finally gets to be the female James Bond she says she has always wanted to be - and her "seasoned" talents are the perfect "bouillabaisse" in which to form her character "Evelyn Salt". Salt is an action-packed, suspense, spy thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat as it takes you on many twists and turns while barreling towards its "good to the last bite" conclusion. Salt is good enough that you will want to go back for seconds and the movie ends in such a way as to virtually guarantee another "full coarse meal" with Salt a year or two from now. Salt may not be everyone's "taste" but if you like your action fast and crazy with a twist you will find it an excellent repast.

Magic - You Will Appreciate The Apprentice!

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a magical adventure that should please the entire family! Nothing earth-shattering here but there is a lot to be said for an inventive, fun, family pic that creates some interesting dynamics between Cage's sorcerer and Baruchel's "nerdy" modern day apprentice. The effects are above average but rarely spectacular ... and that is okay in this movie. The meat and potatoes are the relationships between Cage, Molina (always great), Baruchel and Palmer. We liked the characters and the way they are portrayed. A fun, summer, family diversion.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Inception is Worth Your Inspection - See it!

Inception is a complex, layered (literally), sci-fi, suspense thriller that will have you amazed, focused, guessing and involved for all of its 148 minutes.... and then some. DiCaprio and Nolan are a great combination. The complex MC Escher-like brain of Nolan combined with the ability of DiCaprio to react with passion at times, thought and contemplation sometimes and multi-layered emotion virtually all of the time make this movie a rich, dark, evolving cinematic near-masterpiece. No need to perfectly follow every nuance as you will understand enough to allow your journey into Inception's dream worlds to "gather you up" and keep you entranced. A great ride with a perfect ending. Don't miss seeing Inception in a theater on the big screen!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
