I really liked this movie! The relationship between Jules and Paul seemed unrealistic at first; but the more I thought about it, it made more sense when given the biological mom and dad relationship and a possible need to explore that. The acting was great! The frequent close ups of Benning and Moore prove that great acting trumps glamour and vanity. Overall, I found the movie very enjoyable and would give it 4 1/2 stars.

Outstanding in so many ways that I'm at a loss to list them. Moved right to my Top Ten Movies of all time. If you put Script at the top of your list, and want to see actors "not" acting, this is definitely a must-see film for you. Hats off to writer-director Lisa Cholodenko. The story line and acting was what got me there.. The acting lived up to my expectations - which were high considering the wonderful cast. This movie is an insult to lesbians. It gives straight men the idea that lesbian woman get off on themselves by a mans penis. I am a lesbian woman and I found it very humiliating and insulting. One that truly captures the experience of being in a long-term committed relationship. There are so many amazing moments captured in this film. One of the best acted films I've seen in a long time. Well written and directed- I love when film takes you into the belly of the beast and this one went all the way. The uncomfortable scenes were extremely uncomfortable-I was squirming in my seat and you truly see that a gay marriage/relationship is no different then any other and that donating/accepting sperm is complicated. I really felt connected and invested in the story and the characters. I will be surprised if Oscar passes over this one.

All of the actors did a superb job, and the story and script were excellent, with only a couple of exceptions. I thought the "f" word was used about 4,000 times more than necessary for realism, and more sex was graphically shown than romantic or even sexy. But a good relationship and family-life-is-messy-but-loving movie. Should not be billed as a comedy, although parts are amusing. Bening and Moore were terrific.

Would absolutely reccomend this movie. Annette Bening and Julianne Moore are spot-on as a couple that any couple can relate to. Mark Ruffalo nails the role of an aging-organic-hippie-floater kind of guy confronting "what-if" feelings, and the kids are fantastic displays of the frenetic emotions of teenagers responding to the world around them. Laugh, cry, relate, and love them!

I am a 63 year old straight woman and I enjoyed the movie. I laughed out loud quite a few times and I am not that easy to make me laugh. I am open minded though after all we are in 2010--the rating of R on the movie tells you exactly what to expect as far as language etc. so if you don.t agree with that you always have an option--the acting was great, my husband went with me and he laughed as well, so overall it was a good day out.

It all begins with the writing. In this case that's as good as it can possibly be. Characters are so clearly drawn. Bening, Moore and Ruffalo are Academy Award contenders. Waskowska ,who plays the teen aged daughter is a major talent. Don't let the lesbian relationship scare you away. This is just another version of a family with its joys and pains. The psychological truth of the relationships rings so true you can't deny the honesty.
