I took my 5 year old and a 6 year old friend of his and both of them LOVED it! I don't think I"ve stopped hearing about Hiccup or Toothless since we left the theater, almost 2 weeks ago!
Best of all, I even enjoyed it and was totally taken in by the characters. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!
I know that there were some concerns about it being scary and afterwards, neither of the kids I brought had any issues with what happened during the film. While the dragons did appear ferocious, there wasn't any "gore" and while the sentement of loss was there towards the end of the film, it is fairly quickly eliminated. I found out later that my son's friend has had issues with being afraid in movies and he loved it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

My grandsons, 6 and 4, enjoyed it very much, and so did I. It was scary for the 4 year old, glad that I didn't take them to the 3D version which I thought might be a problem. The message about being different and family relationships was great.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I thought the movie was very good. I took my granddaughters and they liked it. I thought it was a little scary for the young one. She is only 3. The other one is 7. They both fell asleep about half way thru the movie though.

Fun Story. The 3D definitely enhanced this movie. The animated characters manage to be charming even though they are supposed to be dragons. Strong female characters, too. This is very enjoyable for all ages except perhaps for the very young (younger than 5). If your very young person is a little skittish, take them to a non-3D version. The story will still be charming. It contains good lessons about having self-courage and thinking for yourself.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Most of the children were talking and running around through much of the showing I attended. Too many characters; too much subplot, for children to follow or adults to care about. All the scenes between the Viking son and the dragon, as they got to know and understand each other, were lovely and held the attention of everyone. As for the climax, you've seen one battle climax, you've seen this one.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I took my 2 year old son to watch this movie, along with his 3 and 5 year old cousins and they all loved it!! I was expecting some slow areas in the movie where the boys would loose interest but there weren’t any and they sat in the seats the entire time without any problems… It was like they were glued to the screen!! All the adults and children alike were impressed.

I took my 10 and 15 year old to see this movie. Definitely worth watching! Toothless kinda reminded us of Stitch, the way he looks and acts. I wouldn't suggest this movie for a small child (under 6 years old). Some scenes could be a little frightening or scary.

Our family really enjoyed this movie together. It's the same old story of the outcast of the family/tribe who makes good in the end and teaches everyone a "better way". The underlying tones of Iraq/Afghanistan come through at times, but is subtle enough for the younger kids not to catch it. It was beautifully animated and the characters are really likeable, especially the misunderstood dragons (see above comment on Iraq/Afghanistan).

We went to the non 3D version for the kids and for momma. Thought this movie was a good ride for the whole family. My three year old, an avid movie watcher, was a little scared for Toothless most of the movie. My 6 year old had a similar reaction. She wasn't very afraid during the loud battle scenes, but more so upset during the emotional battles. I think this movie touches both boys and girls. If your child is on the sensitive side I'd say 6 and up. My husband and I both enjoyed it.

My 3 grandchildren, 10,8, & 5 specifically and unanamously reqested this movie-a rare occurence in itself, and I'm pleased i had the opportunity to take them.
The movie has warmth, excitement and humor. There are very soft, subtle messges about generational differences, family strife, and understanding the differences in others. What was the last animated movie you saw where the adults in the audience clapped and whistled at the end? Go see it with a child, a child at heart, or by yourself and be a child again. You won't regret it.

I took my five-year-old son and we had a great time. By the time the movie was over, he wanted a dragon of his own. I think it was a lot of fun - just enough action to keep the adults into it but not so much that the kids are scared. Or at least mine wasn't. He was much more frightened of Princess and the Frog (another movie I really liked) than this.

Awesome movie! We were rooting for Hiccup and Toothless 100%! The story was really sweet and not too scary for little kids, but still really enjoyable for adults. I'm 22 years old and the 26 year old and two 18 year olds I went with loved it too! We like animated films but I feel most adults would love it too.
