Among the best acted films of the year, by the entire cast. The perfiormances all present real people with depth of character. Pacino and Walken, with all the sub-text they employ, and their delightful and warm rapport, are a total pleasure to witness. The story is a delight, as the old gang (including Arkin), on the verge of the end of their lives, get together to re-enact their earlier crime days, presenting not only their life-lessons learned but plenty of wisdom, as well. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Pros great story, great actors
Cons slow
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Too much chaos, not enough clarity

Most of the children were talking and running around through much of the showing I attended. Too many characters; too much subplot, for children to follow or adults to care about. All the scenes between the Viking son and the dragon, as they got to know and understand each other, were lovely and held the attention of everyone. As for the climax, you've seen one battle climax, you've seen this one.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

the Joker makes it exceptional

A good, not a great movie, 1st 2/3rd of the film has excellent action separated by boring, weakly acted dialogue scenes, except for Heath Ledger's Joker, every line reading and gesture of which is original, exciting, totally fascinating. There has never been any performance like it. Last 3rd of the movie, however, is a thrilling adventure with sensational action never done better.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
