I got teary eyed more than once. I thought the movie was inspiring and very well done. The scenes on the horse track were suspenseful even though you knew what was gong to happen. I have a lot of respect for Ms. Chenery -- she was a tough broad yet quite a lady. That was something to pull off in 1969

Went to this movie with my husband, brother, and sister-in-law. I really felt for the characters in the movie. You feel their tension, stress, grief, and joy throughout the show. I was not the only member of the audience cheering when Secretariat crossed the finish line. Even though I knew Secretariat had won the Triple Crown, because of the way the film was made, you feel the suspense and may even wonder, "Can he do it?" I enjoyed myself and so did everyone with me.

Nine of us went, aged 8 to 77, and all loved it. The story of Penny's parents and their love for each other, as well as the insights into their love of horses, was one touching element. The representation of the complications, and their resolution, within Penny's own family were nicely presented. Well-acted. Beautiful cinematography. The thundering sound of hoof-beats sounded real. Amazing use of old video. We all knew how the races would end but the action was, nevertheless, enthralling.

I've seen "Seabiscuit" and all of the other racing horse films, but this one was the best by far. Amazing that it was ll true. They even had the real woman owner doing a cameo. Diane Lane was great as Penny Chenery, the indomitable owner of Secretariat. Also, John Malkovich was his usual great self and hilarious as the French trainer Lucien Laurin. They got some big-arse red horse to portray secretariat and he came back to life in this movie which makes you feel as though it is all happening now and you're living through it, with amazing closeups of the races that you normally wouldn't see. Very emotional film as well. Great family movie but exciting even if you're not into horse racing. This was part of America's History!

Best movie I have seen in a long time!
Took my 11 and 12 year old and we all fell in love with it. Even though you know the horse is going to win, you get caught up in every race!
And the strength of Penny Tweedy Chereny is truly inspirational! For a woman in the late 60s, early 70s to accomplish what she did is remarkable (it would be remarkable today, but even more so back then)
John Malkovich brings a wonderful quirkiness to the movie, which made it even more endearing.
A movie for all ages!

Seeing "Secretariat" with my wife and two sons brought back memories of my being ten years old and having a poster (not a Fathead, but a poster) of Secretariat on by bedroom wall. How a horse could become a hero to a young boy has somehow later translated to the big screen 35 years later. "Secretariat" is simply heroic, and the film uses all of its colorful (and some wooden) characters to define it. DIane Lane as the patriarch of both her farm and her family is a pantheon of "Girl Power" to the middle aged set. Moms will love her (and she's easy on dads too) and the kids will learn something very important about going the distance.

This film is uplifting and inspiring. The performances were excellent, including the horses. The only disappointment is that they didn't use the film clipping of the actual 1973 Belmont race. The announcer at the actual race added so much to the feel of what an astonishing accomplishment this was. But yes, I heartily recomment this film to everyone.

I am old enough to remember Secretariat, and the amazing feat that came our way when he won the Triple Crown...Disney's adaptation of the book is fantastic, and the race scenes were pulse pounding and left me feeling like I had been on The Great Horse racing each race.
There are laugh out loud moments of comedy as well as moments of pure joy and clapping as many were cheering Secretariat on...
This movie delivered much more than my Husband and I expected, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely one we will be buying to add to our home movie collection when it comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray.

What a champion Secretariat was! I loved this movie because I followed Secretariat's races as they played out. What an impact this Tripple Crown win had on my life! And it was my first active tripple crown awareness at age 22!
I even went to the Secretariat Statue unveiling at the KY Horse Park in 2004. Penny, Ron, and Eddie as well as many others were there. I will never forget the experience!
Great movie for all ages--family friendly, too! Don't miss the "Big Red" experience! If you liked the "Blind Side" you will be inspired by the story of perserverence and inspiration against the odds! Go see this wonderful movie and tell your friends!

An old-fashioned, rousing film that happens to be based on an amazing true story! Diane Lane is spot-on with her portrayal of Penny Chenery, and John Malkovich is magical as Lucien Laurin. In fact, the whole cast is so good, you immediately forget that they're actors, and are plunged into a riveting ride to the finish. I remember being glued to the screen for those incredible 3 races in '73, and reading about the people behind this amazing horse. The grit and persistence of the people shine through this uplifting movie, and the race scenes are amazing. VERY mild language, so feel free to bring the kids (they hear worse on prime time TV). Enjoy!

I was fortunate to see Secretariat race in "73". This movie brought all the great memories of that time. This movie taught me more about the woman who did it all. It was a good movie, but I felt it needed to be more explosive and dynamic because of who Secretariat was. I felt something was lacking in this respect. Diane Lane was great, as usual. I did feel John Malkovich was miscast in the role of LL. Seabiscuit was dynamic, and you felt the emotion, the ups and downs of his career, and of course his final run, and win, of the Santa Anita Handicap. I didn't feel that with Secretariat's win of the Triple Crown here. I had the pleasure of meeting his son, Academy Award, in July. He looked just like dad, only smaller. He passed away in August from the same thing that took his great sire, laminitis. All in all the movie was good, and I will buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I was 16 in 1972-73 when I saw Big Red race in person in all his Aqueduct, Saratoga, and Belmont appearances, (including his stakes win!) I always wondered why they had never made a movie about him! Then I thought it was just as well that they did'nt, because they could never really capture his aura or his presence or his performances on screen! They certaintly could never ever get a horse to run like him,(no horse before or after has ever even come close!) I'm glad they waited till now to make it and I'm glad it was Disney to make it happen! Let's be realistic though! Nothing that man can make, can ever come close to a miracle! That is exactly what Secretariat, "the horse", was, a miracle! A perfect horse carved into life by the hand of God! Anyone whose ever seen him race knows that it's true! He was a special being sent to us from above to let us all know what perfect is like! No movie could really ever capture that! This movie does come as close to giving or reminding us of that special time when we were blessed to witness a miracle that wore a red coat, stood 16.2 hands, weighed 1,100 lbs., had 3 white stockings, a star with a stripe and a love to run faster than any horse that has ever lived! I know I was blessed to see him!

I was only 17 when Secretariat won the Triple Crown. Just like many young girls, I dearly wanted a horse since I was 8. We couldn't afford one; so I fell in love with Secretariat the first time I saw him race and win at the Laurel Futurity in 1972, saw the Garden State race soon after and read about him being named Horse of the Year in '72.
So I 'lived' the Triple Crown in 1973, and when I heard there would be a movie in 2010 I was beside myself. October 2nd finally came -- I was captivated from start to finish. Movie was very close to history. Enjoyed Diane Lane's performance; but especially John Malcovich as Lucien and the actors portraying Ron Turcotte and Charlie Davis. I felt like I was reliving a fun, poignant time of my life. Can't wait to see again!

Saw the sneak peek preview with my two children and 4 friends - all horse people. We LOVED it! It is inspirational, motivational, endearing, exciting, uplifting, powerful and thoroughly enjoyable! We especially enjoyed the cinematography shot from the horse's perspective - portrayed what it would be like to be riding Big Red or feeling the horse's power! Also - Mrs Tweedy was a great example of what it means to be classy and not stoop to low levels of those who doubted her and Secretariat. Great example for girls to see. The movie made you want to cheer out loud and applaud! I highly recommend not only seeing it but seeing it more than once and owning it one day!
