I had high expectations for this film and I was overwhelmed on all levels. The acting was great, the visual effects were awe-inspiring, the experience was imercive - I felt like I was really there. the 3D aspect was the best I have ever seen. there were none of the typical spit-takes toward the audience, it was just there to enhance the feel of the film.
I have seen it twice so far and will likely go again - this is a NOT to BE MISSED film!!!

This movie is like Fern Gully, Dances With Wolves, Jurassic Park, Titanic, and Matrix 3 all rolled into one. No credit to James Horner for recycling the "Enemy At the Gates" music and thank you James Cameron for letting us know that you can afford the most expensive and exotic drugs in America. I dunno if you got high and put your DVD changer on random and just let the story roll or what but dang.
Starts off very impressive, but in the end comes down to as cheesy a story as you can get. So I have to say plot wise its pretty much worthless but yes the effects are awesome.

I wasn't excited to go, but I am so glad that I did! The visual effects are spectacular! It's a little long, and you've heard most of this story before, but it held my attention nonetheless - the blue folk and scenery of Pandora can't help but mesmerize. See it in 3D for the full effect - it's really amazing!

The special effects were fabulous; the world of the Navi was totally engrossing - that someone can envision such an extraordinary place is always amazing to me and it was executed beautifully. A great movie pulls me into the story and time ceases to exist; unfortunately, this didn't happen with Avatar. There wasn't enough character development and dialogue for me to really connect with this movie, but I would still recommend it just to experience Pandora. This movie will probably appeal the the younger set and it's a good movie the whole family can enjoy at some level.

This film is a showpiece for the new 3D and CGI technologies. The story itself is uninspiring and predictable, and little time is spent developing characters. Plenty of New Age Mother Earth stuff. There is absolutely no humor injected to break up the serious sequences. What is worth the ticket price is the attention to detail in the flora and fauna, the colors and uniqueness of the animals, and the truly amazing concepts of Pandora.

Seeing Avatar in 3D was the best movie experience I have ever witnessed in my lifetime. I heard many reviews that said the substance, plot and dialogue of the movie were weak but the special effects were incredible. I would say that both were very strong. Seriously, one of the best movies I've seen all year - make that, for a while! I also thought it was bold and refreshing of James Cameron to portray the US as the 'bad guys.' This is, without a doubt, one of the best all-time fantasy films. It's Pocahontas, Star Wars and Lord of the Rings all mixed up together with lots of fantastic creatures, great effects, a nice storyline and a very wonderful message.
I highly recommend this movie and I would lower the rating to PG because it's worth seeing by younger children. I took my 8 year old daughter after watching the movie myself and she was delighted.
Take your kids with confidence. It's worth it.

I was a little disappointed in Avatar. With all the hype about Cameron's genius I expected the whole film to be great but the story was predictable and the concluding scenes looked like a video game. The Marine commander was way over the top. It was also depressing to think that by the year 2154 we would not know better than to destroy a civilization for some mineral or other. There is no denying the beauty of the film and appeal of the leading players. I don't like films where we are the bad guys!

This visual effects extravaganza failed to connect with me on an emotional level. I kept thinking that the storywriters missed huge opportunities; and hollow cliche-ridden characters and shallow performances couldn't get me to care about the plight of the Navi or the Jake Sully character. And the poorly executed deus ex machina ending had me leaving the theatre feeling very meh. If Cameron released this five years earlier with better actors and more compelling script I would've not been so nonplussed. But there is nothing here we haven't seen before.
And I'm a VFX fan. The 3D is good, but not Coraline good.

OUTSTANDING!! I wasn't sure that I would like this movie and I didn't even think about seeing it until I heard my daughter talk about it. I was skeptical at first, but I went to see it to see what all the fuss is about. I'm not a big science fiction person and never liked lord of the rings/star wars, but this movie was definitely worth the hype! It had an amazing story line and of course the film making was incredible. Would definitely suggest seeing it in 3D (worth the money unlike other movies in 3D). I would suggest it to anyone!

My husband and I saw Avatar in 3D last night and we both loved it. We felt absorbed into the movie and the story. I think everyone that wants to see it should see it on the big screen in 3D.

You have 3 choices: regular, 3D and 3D IMAX but you have no excuses NOT to see this amazing movie. With 3D, the theater experience is back and you will love the lush scenery, the vertigo-inducing adventure and the smash-em-up action. There are some criticisms of the plot being too much like Dances With Wolves but actually I didn't mind that at all. Watch the faces: that's the key to enjoying this new technology. Plan to see it more than once. We chose 3D and loved it.

Avatar in 3D is certainly worth the experience. The 3D graphics and experience are incredible and comfortable to watch. The movie itself is another story. Think HOW THE WEST WAS WON with the White Men being the bad guys and the Native Americans being the good guys. The movie is a critique of American policy toward the Native Americans and American policy around the globe. I am not saying that Mr. Cameron is wrong but the story itself is not that interesting. The experience is certainly worthwhile.

Luckily for Avatar, the bad acting more or less conceals the idiotic script. This is merely eye-candy, big, visual, impressive, but as smart as a velvet Crown Royal bag full of hobo teeth. I think it's probably something everyone is going to want to see, but it is just so innane that it boggles the mind. I'll leave you with one word "unobtainium". If that isn't the latest bellweather of mentally challenged, I don't know what is.
