It was absolutely great! My wife and I are seniors and she is not usually very enthusiastic about seeing a SciFi film. But we both thought this one was excellent! The 3D and special effects were exceptional too. I have only seen the same movie twice a couple of times in my lifetime, but would see this one again in a heartbeat!

How sad that this transparently triumphalist, violent, nationalistic, and ultimately -- if covertly -- racist cliché of a comic book has been hyped so breathlessly by The NY Times.Its pretty and often surprising imagery, and its two-dimensional messages about environmental threats, the war in Iraq, the massacre of native Americans, etc., etc., do not obscure or excuse the ultimate poverty of this bloated potboiler. The best way to describe it for someone who is trying to make up their minds is this: "Avatar" mixes the best parts of "Dances With Wolves", "Last of the Mohicans", and "Aliens", stirs them in with great storytelling, stunning setting, and incredible movie making techniques.
I was spellbound.
There were predictable parts, but they were predictably Cameron. I could definitely see U.S. Colonial Marines fighting Aliens on another planet and the Corporation is still there and acts in its own interests ... like a "sequel" to that sad universe that Mr. Cameron created 30 years ago. But, this time Ripley gets to come home.

The 3d images and the beauty of Pandora are amazing, but I'm excited for some of the messages to be seen and experienced by mass audiences. This was a really good movie. I really liked it. And by 'really', I mean REALLY! Lots of action and not as much talking like most action movies.
But the theater that I went to had a very bad lag in the middle of the movie for various different parts of the scenes and it was a real bummer.
I most certainly do recommend everyone to go watch it in 3D though. It's definitely worth the 3 extra dollars.

My family and I went to this movie with high expectations and were not disappointed. Yes, the special and visual effects were amazing and the 3D experience is worth the extra money. For us the movie also had a depth that can be lacking in a visually astounding movie. Some may feel it is predictable but face it, who would want to see a movie where the good guys get destroyed? My husband compared it to the old westerns where you find yourself pulling for the Native Americans instead of Custer. This is a movie well worth seeing more than once.

I was dubious about this movie, but my partner was so excited about going that I went along with minimal expectations. Not only did the movie exceed them, it introduced me to a magical world that enveloped my heart and soul. I felt myself on an emotional roller-coaster, feeling the highs felt by the handicapped Marine as he experienced the freedom of movement and the low when the native people's world was breached. Bravo to James Cameron for a job well done!!

I have to agree with a previous review - I was overly impressed with the eye-popping visual effects, especially considering my expectations were so high. As I suspected, however, the plot was extremely simple and focused too much on a "us vs. them" theme that is all-too often used in movies that emphasis the environment and the evil industrialized nations.
My suggestion? Turn off your brain, throw on the dorky 3-D glasses, and enjoy some eye candy. Just don't expect to feel like you ate a full "meal."

John Cameron was incredibly brilliant in Titanic, but really outdid himself with Avatar. It is a very spiritual movie with a profound message if one looks for it. It shows that if the US Military leaders are corrupt and depraved, the troops are equally misguided. Special effects were spectacular, although they need to work on the 3D some more because the planes (not flying kind) were too obvious. He obviously was copying Spielberg, too. Otherwise will become another classic in its own right.

Worth the ticket price to experience the visual effects alone, but I have to admit I was a little dissapointed with the predictabie nature and simplicity of the plot. The aliens smacked way too much of every other mistreated people in hundreds of other movies, and the storyline included strong undertones of the typical industrialized western peoples destroying (another) planet.. parts were even dowright hokey. But for pure entertainment and eye-popping special effects it arguably set a new precedent which will be difficult to follow. Only suggestion is to bring along some eye drops if you see the 3D version; my eyes were blood red at the end.

As a long time sci-fi buff, this is one of the best movies I've seen! The visual effects, color transition, and plot will surely prove to be a timeless classic. I did see it in 3-D, which proved to be a mistake for me, as I am prone to motion sickness, and had to remove the glasses half way through. My husband and I truly enjoyed this movie. It has such incredible cinematography. The colors were just fantastic. The plot was simple and reminded of us a few different movies all rolled into one. I liked the movie. The Avatar idea is an excellent story line. Graphics and 3D were fabulous. The only down-side? Good guy vs. bad guy theme showing the American military personnel as crazies. New love, lost and found again. There's got to be more to movies than just the typical fare.

I saw the movie twice, once in normal and the second time in 3D. I was very disappointed in the fowl language used. I would not reccomend for young children or God fearing adults.

This movie is by far the best movie I've seen in a long time. Beyond the obvious amazing CGI, the story is a timeless one. I highly recommend it to people of all ages.
