I went to this movie with low expectations and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. The story line was very simple and I think that has thown off some of the reviewers. If you relax and enjoy the movie for what it is you will enjoy it. The pacing is good and it is visually stunnig. The only negative I will site is that 3D did not add much and is kind of inconvienient.

The movie was very visually stunning. The 3D was very eye catching. But, director could have left out the bad words that were said here and there in the movie. Kids are definitely going to be in the audience and the cussing is not necessary for the plot at all. The 3d was fantastic. Probably the future of movie going....the story was just ok and basically you knew what was going to happen. BUT, that said, a great entertainment event. And that's what Avatar is besides being a movie...it's an event!

I would recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 11. The battle scenes are to intense for younger children. This movie is a visual feast. The creativity and imagination is beyond anything I have seen in years. It reminded of the first time saw Star Wars in the 70's. I am in my 60's and go to the movies about 30 times a year. Don't miss this movie! I have seen it in the regular version and 3-D. The 3-D version adds another reason to see this spectacular production.

Experiencing Avatar in a 3D environment was really great, though I wish I had secured tickets for the iMax 3D experience because the film is visually stunning and epic. Avatar crosses genres making it a action adventure sci-fi fantasy. Produced at WETA Workshop, the same company that created Lord of The Rings, Avatar captures the same majestic and intimate feel by setting a love story and personal discovery smack in the middle of an intergalactic conflict. Careful as you may find yourself rooting against the human race by the final battle (which is visually dynamic and exciting) and wondering how our environment and planet would be different today if the American Indians had triumphed. James Cameron has done it again.

Saw this in 3D, WOW!!!!!!! This will become a true classic. I was totally immersed in the story (even though there were some parts that were predictable). The characters were very well portrayed by the actors, especially Stephan Lang as Col. Miles Quaritch, the lifer combat soldier! Zoe Saldana as Neytiri, was exceptional as well! The cinematography (if you can have that in a movie like this) was simply amazing, just beautiful, and the special effects and graphics were superb!!! Another job well done by one of the GREAT writer/directors of our time, James Cameron! Oh, by the way, I WILL be going to see this again!

This movie takes the 3D capability to a new level. The effects are so incredibly done it becomes totally immersive. The CG detail is beyond anything I have ever seen before. I loved the transparent 3D monitors and cockpit screens! Combined with the magical fantasy and beauty of Pandora the entire movie is a visual delight of the senses. Add a well-told story with real character development and this movie is magical. A totally energizing and enjoyable movie experience.

It is said to be one of the most expensive movies ever made. Well, they got their money's worth. I literally could not take my eyes off the screen. The look of this film is jaw-dropping.
The "white man's greed" story line may put off some - Cameron has a point of view and it comes through clearly. The metaphors in the film are quite obvious but the film never gets bogged down by them.

The film was a major disappointment-after one adapted to the special effects, there was nothing "there." This movie is not for everyone (my 70 year old mother would definitely not like it) but for older kids and their parents, I would say it is a "must see". I was disappointed to see very young kids in the theatre as I think the violence is way too intense for them. I highly recommend seeing it in 3D. During the movie, I kept thinking, "now this is responsible movie making". I hope it sets a new standard for the industry.

Avatar is the new Wizard of Oz. It won't be long before all movies are in 3D. It's not an earth shattering difference - but it is an added layer within the experience that is going to the movies (and also helps justify the ticket price).
The movie itself is a good story that moves quickly enough that you don't notice the nearly 3 hours you will spend in your chair. It would be worth seeing in even in 2D.

Avatar's appeal rests on the creation of an extraordinarily vivid world filled with humanoids in a jungle paradise named Pandora. The 3D imagery, the wildly creative beasts, both land-based and flying, and the seamless integration of the humanoids into this environment sets this movie apart.
The story line however is a heavy handed portrayal of mankind as the insensitive, overly militarized crusher of Eden, all for filthy lucre. Think of the tale as Custer's last stand revisited. 3D IMAX has the BEST clarity and 3D viewing for this movie...I have seen both regular 3D and IMAX 3D and recommend IMAX.
This movie will impress you visually. The world Cameron creates is amazing and fun to view (much like a saltwater aquarium species). There are many themes in this movie and you'll see those you want to see: environmentalism, capitalism, colonization, love story, privatized-independent military contracts, etc....yet they all blend so well in to one epic story.
For the families out there: violence isn't all that bloody, there are some close up kills of animals and soldiers, and swearing is less than approx. 5 times (J.C. pops up once or twice).

Not anything like I expected. Although the 3D effects were fun, I was ready to leave after the first 30 minutes. This is a movie I would bring my grandkids to see. It's hard to put into words, the way I felt after leaving the theater. Three quarters of the way through the movie, I found myself near tears, wishing Pandora and its people existed. Wow, I thought A Christmas Carol was great, this movie puts all previous 3D to shame. The story is also great, there is a message there that I hope others will GET, could have done without the language though.

Incredible movie. Hands down best movie of the year. I did not believe I would like a story based on big blue creatures. Wow was I wrong. The story sucks you in and by the end it all seems plausible. Not to mention the graphics are on a whole other level. There were times when I thought I was walking through the forest.
