It was an interesting creation of a world if you care. The Avatars themselves were sometimes sexy and real, sometimes repulsive and animated-looking. The plot was out of any cowboys/Indians movie, Pocahontas, Dances with Wolves, etc. Politically correct scree on the genocide of Indians and other indigenous peoples. 3D is totally unimportant and the picture actually looks better without the two-dimensional flat distractions inherent in 3D viewing. Most of the time these high budget flicks use the amazing visuals to smudge the sub par plot and acting. While there were times when the dialog may have been a little weaker than I would have liked, the majority of the movie was better than I expected. The 3D was used to supplement the story, and it didn't jump out at you like many 3D movies do- it simply added depth and made the amazing effects all that much better. This just goes to show that when effects are used correctly, they can really add a lot to a movie. Going to see another action movie in 2D may be just plain boring from now on.

Some critics have said that the story is old and tired, but the theme of corporate greed and the nonchalant destruction of nature is both timely, and a necessary reminder of where we are and where we might be in the future. But aside from that, this is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen. To say that the effects are breathtaking is an understatement. It also has enough action and adventure to keep 3 boys age 8 to 12 glued to their seats without complaint for nearly 3 hours. That's a feat in itself.

I was very eager to see this movie. Well it definitely lived up to all of the expectations i had. I don't remember one dull part in the 2+ hours I sat. Once the movie ended, in the midst of the applause someone yelled out, "I'm so happy!"... I couldn't have said it better myself. Go see it now.

Without giving too much away, the special effects were so seamless, I felt like I had really landed on Pandora. The flora and fauna of the planet seemed real and made sense biologically. The faces of the aliens (Na'Vi) were so realistic in expression that I felt their emotion when they were despairing. Sam Worthington plays a man who has been in a wheelchair for several years and they made the actor's legs look atrophied and I could not see the special effect of how they did it. FANTASTIC MOVIE! See it in 3D for the best effect. You can see every leaf and lichen. It is amazing and far beyond anything done so far.

While the story and characters were good and certainly worked well enough the real thrill of Avatar is the incredible world of Pandora. The only way to see this movie is in 3D that is not the 3D at the shows in Disney World. The new technology used in Avatar brings you in to the amazing world of Pandora. At the end of a 2.5 hour movie all you want to do is go back to Pandora and see more of this stunning place. The "evil" human military characters are way over the top and somewhat cliched but understand that the characters are done this way to drive home a larger point. Just suspend these minor complaints and take in a movie that offers a level of quality, detail and enjoyment as it creates a time and place rarely achieved before.

I was blown away with the 3D, the colors, everything, it was an amazing experience. I'd say this one is a MUST in 3D to truly experience the movie. After reading reviews, I had expected less from the story line, but I was pleased, loved all the special effects, and just the imagination that went into everything on planet Pandora, from the inhabitants, to the plants, and animals who lived there. I don't think the story lives up to the hype given to the computer effects. I thought the first two thirds were boring and the last third was predictable violence. I am offended at the way the military is portrayed. In the 22nd century, the military commander thinks of the native peoples as "mindless savages"? That isn't acceptable today, why would it be 150 years from now?!? Only one member of the military has the fortitude to say this isn't right and to think for herself? By all means, go see it and enjoy the 3-D effects, but don't look for a worthwhile story.

This world is one of the most fleshed out I have ever seen. It is one of those rare sci-fi/fantasy movies in which most things within the world are clearly and simply explained and it all makes sense with very few exceptions. Avatar's visual and special effects are phenomenal, without a doubt and movie goers will not be disappointed! The action and visuals, coupled with the screenwriter's message, makes this move a 5. Although I do feel the movie is a little "anti-military" the bigger picture teaches that we're all connected in some way, our energy is borrowed, and death is just a transfer of energy from one place to another. Cameron has done an excellent job of communicating this in an entertaining, non-preachy style. He has brilliantly represented all the indigenous people of the world and the causes of their suffering, GREED! Brilliant movie!

Avatar definitely gets an A++ for creating a great movie experience. The 3-D was seamless, used appropriately, and added an experience to an already visually stunning movie.
However, he gets a B for originality. Its nice he modernized Dances with Wolves and I appreciate how he made Studio Ghilbi's imagination live action, but there wasn't much I haven't seen before. It was just done better, with more of it, and didn't look animated.
I would have appreciated a less obvious plot and some more humor, but you almost forget about all that when being wowed by the visual experience and the awesome seamless 3-D experience.
Go see the 3-D version in a theater.

Movie was a visual extravaganza. Physical and sensory stimulation was amazing. Unfortunately Hollywood's (Cameron's) depiction of the military and Corporations was RIDICULOUSLY ONE-DIMENSIONAL, wholly unbelievable at a best and actually EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE. To depict the military as a one-dimensional, non-thinking force that cares nothing for peoples outside of their own is sick. This is the first time that I have taken the time to write a review for a movie. This alone should hint to how great this movie is. I was on the edge of my seat, grabbing the armrests, and so was my son. The storyline was great and easy to follow. This movie is full of action and suspense and balanced with a love story. The special effects were excellent. This is one of those movies that you can really submerse your self in. I would recommend this movie to anyone.

Simply amazing, as this film not only provides a visual experience "out of this world", but the plot connects itself to our experiences here on earth. The similiarities to the indigenous peoples here and what we experienced historically really materializes in this film. I am a member of the Bad River Band of Ojibwe, so my awareness to this connection within the film is very evident. From the family structure, sense of community, clan system and the actual respect for the circle of life...this film captures all of the above as it relates to our past and current tribal ways of living. James Cameron has done it again! A materpiece

The only problem with Avatar is that it will be projected as nothing but another epic sci-fi or fantasy movie, and thereby passed up by too many main stream movie goers. They will be missing a huge ground breaking experience in movie making. See the 3D version if it's not sold out.
2hrs and 40 minutes of sheer excitement, bewilderment, wonder, all centering on a very effective if not predictable love interest and story line. Who cares if it's not that original... it's not like we didn't know how Titanic would end.
Overall, I can't recommend this movie enough, especially to those who wouldn't normally see this genre of movie.
Another Cameron hit.

No words can describe this movie. you must experience it to understand the quality, detail and outstanding story which make Avatar such a phenomenal movie. I think watching it in 3D is the way to go...and for those of you who watch it on bootleg, you're doing yourselves a dis-service. pay the $15, it's worth it.

Guys.. please do go and watch this movie.. 3D if possible. The bucks you will spend over he normal fare are really worth it. The storyline, animation and the action sequences are all so real. :) Worth every cent of your money!!
