Hard to imagine that in a world so much more digital than 28-years ago that someone could have attempted to make a Tron sequel. This could have gotten ugly.
But it wasn't ugly. In fact, while imperfect, it was cleanly done, well thought-out, and didn't leave a cheesy aftertaste. It payed homage to the original while evolving and expanding the concepts very well.
The actions scenes were fantastic but a bit jumpy at times. The plot was much improved over the original although still lacking a bit of originality. The dialog was good and delivered well by believable acting.
The 3D was seamless and added value by not being obnoxiously obvious. The sound at the IMAX was awesome.
There's a lot of movies not worth seeing in theaters. This one is.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great Movie Experience, Good Movie

Avatar definitely gets an A++ for creating a great movie experience. The 3-D was seamless, used appropriately, and added an experience to an already visually stunning movie.
However, he gets a B for originality. Its nice he modernized Dances with Wolves and I appreciate how he made Studio Ghilbi's imagination live action, but there wasn't much I haven't seen before. It was just done better, with more of it, and didn't look animated.
I would have appreciated a less obvious plot and some more humor, but you almost forget about all that when being wowed by the visual experience and the awesome seamless 3-D experience.
