This is one of the best, if not THE best, movies I've ever seen. Visually stunning, magnificent characters, and left me wanting more. Even after nearly 3 hours! The central storyline was a little predictable but it didn't matter. You simply take it in as science fiction, use your imagination, and sit back in awe at what will go down in movie history.

This was the best movie I ever saw. The entire thing was a breathtaking experience and was held together by a great plot. I will go to see it again and get the Blu Ray too when it comes out. I was also thrilled that it did not glorify the military (unlike Transformers2) but showed how Neanderthal brute force thinking and mindless profit motive are. Heroism and higher purposes won a victory in this EPIC movie. Go and see it.

My husband and kids, ages 16, 12 and 10 wanted to see this. I hadn't even seen a trailer! We all went together along with my in-laws, (in their 60s) and EVERYONE really enjoyed this movie! Visually it was amazing, storyline was good. It was certainly believable, as were all the machines in the movie, which sometimes look a little off when depicting the future. It was entertaining enough to not be put off by the length. Action, adventure, love story... seemed to have it all. I would definitely recommend seeing in the theatre in 3D, don't wait for the dvd!

It was the retelling of a beautiful story we've all heard before, much like re-staging a well known play. In this case, it was beautifully re-imagined with an insane budget and nothing was excessive and nothing was left out. Put your elitist and political views aside and get lost in 3D!

The visual effects were absolutely amazing-two thumbs up to Mr. Cameron! The CGI effects were extremely well done too. I was amazed at how lifelike the avatars were. Although the storyline was okay, there were enough visuals and actions to keep me engrossed and entertained in the movie for the more than 2.5 hours that it ran. I would recommend seeing this film as early as possible in the day so that the whole afternoon/evening is not filled with a movie.

This movie talks on the one hand the desire of the materialist to grab evermore things with the equally intense desire of the harmonists/gatherers to leave things more or less as they find them. Of course, both positions are exaggerated in this movie for emphasis but the essential dilemma is the same.
the narration seems very pushy towards the same cliched ending where love conquers all. If you think about it though, this one cliche is absolutely necessary for us sons of Cain to keep on hoping that our sins of desire shall be forgiven by posterity.

The movie is simply amazing without any questions. But the screen in AMC theater is not the real IMAX. The only real IMAX® Dome Theater with an eight stories high screen in Santa Clara county is located at the Tech Museum of Innovations but unfortunately they do not have AVATAR and I don't understand why.

Do go see this movie for the incredible effects. The 3D is not gimmicky, but truly impressive. A ten year old could have written the plot, there are no surpises and the bad guys are cartoonishly bad. Nevertheless, the world that is created, flora and fauna, is breathtaking and definitely worth the experience. Years from now when these effects are more the norm, people may wonder what all the fuss was about, but for now, it is amazing.

What a shame to use such stunning technology for such a derivative, hohum, politically-driven script. Based on an amalgum of old SF plots, it tries to make the earthlings greedy polluters with no morals. I resent painting all of us like that and don't think the "marines" would have so one-dimensional. Why didn't the creatures just drop rocks down on the helocopter blades? In one scene,the hero seemingly jumps off a cliff where you can't even see bottom and falls forever. Then he looks up about 20 feet to look back at the creature at the top of the cliff.
My only recommendation would be to totally suspend belief and do not thinkj as you are awed by the 3d effects. Withoug 3D this would be a loser.

This was my first 3D movie and it was WELL WORTH IT! I enjoyed it very much. I rarely get excited or deeply wrapped into sci-fi movies of this type, but this movie drew me in and kept me completely fascinated the ENTIRE time. Visuals were stunning and done extremely well. There was not one moment where the graphics were skimmped on and could easily be discerned as completely fabricated. I do not "gush" about movies, and am very rarely excited after the fact, but this movie I can not stop talking about. I am not a big movie buff, and go to the movies once in a great while, but take it from me, it's well worth it!! May not be really suitable for young children as there is violence and sensual beahvior.

The movie is impeccably made...CGI perfection. However, the story line and plot are all you've ever seen before. Lord of the rings meets David and Goliath meets dances with wolves meets...I can go on! Also, the 3D was a bit overwhelming...it will be an incredible movie in Blue ray but in 3D the action sequences are a bit too much to capture within the eye frame...

I was blown away by the visual experience of this movie. I was immersed in it....totally. I felt like I was surrounded by any small floating particles, I became a part of the crowd during heavily peopled scenes, the cgi looked great even upon close scrutiny. Amazing.
The well intentioned, but ham handed messages throughout (killing indigenous people to gain access to precious resources is bad....destroying the earth for the same motivation is also bad)...I agree with the message fully, but it felt like a kindergarten primer on the concept. No matter....the world you are lost in allows you to shut off the inner critic for most of the movie. Pretty much a must see in 3D.
