If you enjoyed VERDI's Aida, then go, you'll enjoy it. However if your expecting the english, non opera version by Elton John and Tim Rice then skip it. It interesting to see the difference between the two but if you don't enjoy opera don't bother.

Breath-taking, extravagant, superb arias, great story line, wonderful opera, grandiose, worth every minute of the 4 hr show run-time, exciting, compelling, a work of art by Verdi and the performers. Violeta Urmana vocal range is unbeleiveable, and John Botha is superb in his arias, both are spectacular!

What a wonderful experience. Everytime I attend the Met in HD it gets better and better. The theater was perhaps 3/4 full so I would like to see it booked into a larger venue if possible -perhaps the magnificent Genesee Theatre in Waukegan which would add more to the feeling of attending a really special performance.

This is the first opera we have seen live this season, but we did see three last season as well. The picture and sound were terrific. The lead singers were all in top form. We especially liked Johan Botha whom we had never previously heard. If you missed this perfoemance, you can still catch the encore performance at a local theater.

The AIDA, as with all of the Met in HD performances I have seen, was spectacular. It is like watching a sporting event; you are very up close and personal. Sound and picture were very good.

This is NOT a movie! Grandiose lush colorful production. A bit old-fashioned. Marvelous choreography. Great singings if not acting. Very informative and exciting Intermission features: backstage, changing of the huge scenes, as well as interviews. These are missing when going to the Opera House. Overall an exciting satisfying experience.

Saturday’s sold out performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s glorious exhibition of unremitting love in ancient Egypt, Aida, set a new benchmark for this opera. All three principals, Violeta Urmana (Aida), Dolora Zajick (Amneris), who has sung this role for 20-plus years, and Johan Botha (Radames) gave no holds barred performances under the baton of conductor Daniele Gatti. The set design by Gianni Quaranta was in keeping with the traditional set first presented in 1988. Quite impressive was the grand march involving dozens of supers and four horses among the massive temples and statuary of ancient Egypt. Breaking the march in two, the ballet sequence choreographed by former Bolshoi dance director, Alexei Ratmansky, was breathtaking.

I "watched" Aida at the Owings Mills, MD AMC. Right at the end of intermission, the connection was lost. For about a half hour they tried to restore it. They'd get it back for 2 minutes, lose it for another 10 and the pattern would repeat.
The people at the theater were very rude to my wife when she was getting a refund.
We had friends at other theaters who were able to see the whole opera. They were in places where there was rain, which was Owings Mills' excuse for losing the signal.
I feel the Met should pull the plug on the Owings Mills theater.

This was the first time we attended the Met at a local theater. Picture & sound were fantastic. The many, many camera angles were an added bonus ... better than having the very best tickets (OK, being at the Met for the first time is something we always wanted to experience). During intermissions was very interesting seeing what goes on backstage. The interviews were also enlightening. This production of Aida was very ornate, well performed & we enjoyed the new choreography. As this was a 4 hour deal, appreciated being able to munch on popcorn, and even brought our lunches. All in all, we look forward to Carmen in January to enjoy this experience again.

To the previous reviewer who thought this was 'the worst movie ever,' please realize that this was a live broadcast of an opera. This is not a movie even though shown in a movie theater. Judging from the two filled theaters, it was a true success especially to those of us who appreciate opera. The first showing of the season, Tosca, was even better.
