Excellent Siegfried last minute substitute. The 2nd act Nothung scene could have been more energetic. The 3rd act was great, thrilling conclusion. Some reviewers used to say that Siegfried is the weakest opera of the 4 Ring operas. I think that it the strongest so far.
The Metropolitan Opera Don Pasquale is an extraordinary entertainment. It is a very funny production, suitable for young people. It has outstanding performers. The acting and singing was excellent. Unfortunately this Encore presentation had hardly any viewers at this Rockaway AMC 16 theater, maybe only ten (10)! This could be because there was very little advertising.
The performance does not compare to the Metropolitan Opera performances in HD in the movies. The performers were good, but not great. The first act was pretty bad, but it improved as the singers got warmed up. It is a shame that they don't warm up before the performance. Most of the performers appearded to be over-rehearsed. They were so exact that they did not get to be spontaneous enough. The 3D effects were extraordinary, as if I was part of the production. However, this is not enough.
Iphigenie was short but I was exhausted at the end by the bextreme emotions. It was thrilling, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. Performers were all outstanding, especially Susam Graham. What an experience! I won't forget this one for a long time. I believe that young audiences will not particularly care for the extreme emotions.
It was with trepidation to see Nixon in China by John Adams. I saw already Doctor Atomic by the same composer, so what could be better? Nixon ... was better. The production was original and exciting, visually very good, symbolic, and occasionally even funny. The ballet by Morris was exceptional. All performers were excellent. Singing and Acting was outstanding. Even if you don't like Modern Operas, go see this production.
The singing was great except during the 1st act, when some leading singers did not warm up before. Rodrigo and Elisabeth were out of this world all the time. This may be the greatest Opera by Verdi. Verdi is a Genius. The Orchestra played fantastically as conducted by the youngster Seguin. The acting was outstanding. It would be 5* except for the 1st act, and Don Carlo's sword play and death scene. During intermision Alagna pranticed it (without music) to great effect. When they did it on stage during the performance (with music), it was utter confusion. In all other respects, it was a grat experience.
Excellent comedy. All performers were outstanding, both as singers and actors. We could see details of their facial comic expressions. Anna Netrebco is not going to be forgotten.
This was an excellent Performance! I have seen Das Rheingold before, but nothing like this. The uniset did not appear as uniset at all. It changed the scenes often continuously. Each part was recognizable as if traditional, although in an abstract way. The performers were all oustanding, both as singers and actors. The orchestra was marvelous. The only complaint is that the projections were not designed to my taste; for example the rainbow was represented as colorful vertical lines. The last production raibow was like a raibow, but the gods did not walk on it. This time, the performers acutally walked on the non-raibow.
I did not expect the music to be so exciting as it was, given the inconclusive reviews. Production & performance was excellent. Great singing & acting. Too much blood.
The drama was thrilling, acting out of this world, singing excellent by all of the cast. Domingo was in great form, I was at the edge of my seat. I did not expect this opera to be so great, or of the best of all time, certainly best this season. This old production was outstanding, costumes very colorful.
