This a deep dark secret of so many families. Its when an addiction pushes a person over the edge from doing whats right. This movie brings the issue to the forefront where it needs to be. I just hope it also can bring some focus on getting help to both sides.

I absolutely loved this movie! One of the few times I can say the movie was as good as the book. If this movie does not move you, then something is wrong with you! Mo'Nique should definitely receive an oscar nomination for this role. This was a spectacular performance from her.

Watching this movie brought me to tears and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. It made me realize how lucky I was a s a child, to not have been abused. It also opened my eyes and now I look at other pregnant teenagers a different way, are they being treated like Precious? I don't judge or look down on people. It made me feel good at the end when Precious had the courage to seek help, leave her mom, and pursue her education.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

A movie about a "taboo" topic which is very realistic in the telling. As the story unfolds, it becomes uplifting and inspiring! In the end, it's message is of hope and survival in the face of horrendous abuse!

I was impressed with monique's role.I expected more to happen with precious's growth and development.their was too much school scene and not enough growth. the foundation was great , i expected to get past the foundation. I was left hanging, I think that more should have been added. But, that's just my opinion. I applaud Monique for making oversize and unattractive women rise up out of low self esteem.I would have love to see a scene where precious was getting help with her loosing weight, I can see the beauty in her if she were to get help with working on that. A lot of people were talking and were disappointed.

This movie was riveting. The actors did not appear to be acting. The acting was so real it was almost too much to watch. This movie will open your eyes to abuse in all of it's forms. This movie is not meant to entertain, it was meant to educate and confront issues on abuse, race, color, class and stereotypes still afflicting segments of our society.

This is an amazingly moving movie that is well acted (with surprising performances from the unknown lead as well as from Mo'nique & Maria Carey) with a real life story that's overlooked in today's cinema. The emotion is raw and approachable. This is a downbeat story but so VERY uplifting in a tough love way. It was refreshing to see that this story was told.

My husband and I went to see this not really knowing what to expect. We saw Mo'nique on The Ellen Show and really liked her personallity and how she presented herself to the audience. We knew it had to do with her life as a teenager in the 60's but didn't realize the full scope until we sat down to watch. It saddens me to have to listen to all the heavy language but I understand that it was a movie. She put up a lot of physical abuse and mental abuse, and to be the woman she became is amazing. I highly recommend this to everyone.

This movie speaks volumes about the abusive relationships betweeen parents and children in our society today. It also demonstrates what can happen with the right attitude, determination and just a little help from someone who cares. These examples of incest and child abuse are not as rare in our society as one may think. I recommend this for adults only. Certain aspects are too intense for children. The "R" rating should be strictly enforced

Amazing, tragic, and uplifting in a Shakespearean kind of way. I saw it last night with a theater full of talkers and gigglers, good thing. It took the edge off an otherwise Kleenex soaked evening. Lee Daniels is a genius, the cinematography reminiscent of the 50's and 60's where the racy scenes are replaced with less PTSD inducing imagery. This is a true Oscar contender. A must see!

Precious is powerful and compelling. Telling the story of abuse and obesity in the context of being invisible in society. The impact of people who cared breaking through the wall she built is hopeful. Too often obesity is an excuse for society to ignore people. Thanks to Gabby for her incredible message of hope that comes thru because she played this character.

I saw Precious last night and have spent the last 12 hours reflecting on its meaning. The two words that come to mind are "self-determination." How can someone with such long odds fight to rise above her circumstances? Maybe it's Precious' ability to continuously see herself as a success? Maybe it's the people around her who see her potential. Maybe it's a combination of both. When you think about it, every human being is "Precious." Amazing performances by all, particularly Gaby (Precious) and Mo'Nique (her mother). I highly recommend it!

My Mom taught junior-high level educable mentally retardd and emotionally disturbed kids in the black ghetto. I hung out with her kids and know that world very well. This movie was very familiar to me. It did a very good job of portraying how things are and can be there. Mo'Nique was fantastic, as was the rest of the cast. But Gabourey "Gabby" Sidibe stole the show.

I saw this movie last night and I can't stop thinking about it. It is well named. What is it to be and remain precious to your parents? Are these our most important relationships? What happens when you are no longer precious, when you should be? How does that make you feel about life, about yourself? This story is realistically done and it is painful. The ending was marvelous because through education she finds the ability to move forward, despite all her barriers. She is no longer the passive victim she was taught to be, but an actor in her own life. The story is inspiring in this sense and will make most people feel very grateful for the dysfunctional families they now have.

"Precious:Based on the Novel by Sapphire" is very well done! This movie is very moving and deals with real life/family issues that do exist.
Precious:Based on the Novel by Sapphire" is about a teenage girl named Precious (Gabourey Sidibe) who finds herself pregnant by her father for the second time, she has to leave the public school she attends to enter an alternative school. Her home life is atrocious. Precious is being mentally and physically abused by her mother (Mo'nique) and she finds herself helpless to stop it. The story unfolds from there...

Although some of the scenes were difficult to watch I feel that they made us understand that things are not 'black and white."
Director Lee Daniels brings us 'down and dirty' into the relationships between mother and daughter, for example. Mo'Nique is so
'raw and real' in her performance that Im still
'with her' this morning, after seeing the movie last night. Mariah Carey, Paula Patton and the other cast members were
excellent. I left the movie with a feeling of hope.I think the movie shows the triumph of the human spirit...

Having read the book Push several years ago, I was interested to see how the directors would interpret the movie for film. This is an example of just how BAD things can get. You walk away from the movie feeling hopeful. If Precious can endure, perhaps we can make it through the tough times as well. In spite of the things that happened to her, she determined her own destiny.

I was looking forward to this movie, best parts were in the trailer itself. Oscar buzz??? I think not! I love Tyler Perry's movies but I think he should stick to what he knows best: MADEA!!
almost fell to sleep for the first half, didnt quite get the parts: from ghetto to red carpet and back to ghetto. The trailer makes you think that there would be much more violent scenes as far as Mo'nique goes, but again, all seen in the trailer. Paula Patton is the winner of this movie, not Mo'nique. Good DVD movie to rent, but again, as much as I Love Tyler Perry and his movies, this one sells a bit short.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
