About a year ago I read Sapphire's Novel "Push". I was totally overwhelmed by it. Last evening I viewed "Precious" at the St. Louis Premier. Words cannot express how deeply this movie affected me. From the opening montage to the closing credits I was deeply moved. I work in Social Services and it left me wondering how many Precious' are in my caseload. I know this may sound corny but I left the theatre wanting to be a better human being and extremely grateful for every blessing in my life. In my opinion there is no honor high enough and no accolade great enough to pay proper homage to this brilliant work!

I really feel the best thoughts and experience with the movie would actually come if you had read the book. The movie was good but the book gave the more detail and graphics. When the movie started my wife and I were the only white people in the theater. It felt a little uncomfortable, almost as if we should not have been there.
As the movie progressed all of that changed as we watched a life of human suffering at its very worse and realized that the color of ones skin in meaningless when faced with such obstacles in life. We realized that everything should be about trying to be a better person and helping others who are less fortunate than we are.
"Precious" offers a touch of reality seldom found in a movie and helped us to want to find a better way to live and to understand what may rest just beneath the surface of others who are in such horrible pain.
This is truly an outstanding movie!

This film is excellent. Forces the eyes of America to open to what is occurring in our nation. Shows us how dreams are destroyed, how one becomes trapped in the cycle of abuse and welfare, and how one can escape if given awareness of the opportunity. I was very eager to see this movie since I read the book a few years ago. I thought the acting was wonderful! Monique was outstanding! I was even afraid of her. I thought the movie followed the book very closely. The theme is very dark and really does cross all lines of abuse. I did enjoy that the character finds some type of happiness, no matter how small, by the end of the movie.

I read the book before seeing the movie. I was so blown away that I saw it twice. The actors did a great job of exposing and talking about assault, mental and physical abuse. I did not read the book and only heard about the movie one week before it aired. I went in with very high expectations because of the hype and the line to get in to see it, and of course, because it is a Tyler Perry Production. I enjoyed the movie, although I felt like a lot of scenes were left unfinished. The acting was Academy Award winning stuff. Mo'Nique--did her thang!!! So did every single actor or actress in the movie. I left feeling like I wanted to see more and that I needed to know more. I will be reading the book. If nothing else, the book will now be flying off the shelves!

Precious is one of the most moving films I've seen in a long time. I like the fact that nothing was sugar coated. They shot straight from the hip on this one. Any movie that has the entire audience reacting, has GOT to be worth seeing. I cried, I laughed, I got angry, and in the end was truly satisfied. Precious goes to show that it's not where you come from or what hand life deals you, but it's about what you do with that hand to get where you've gotta go. If you haven't yet, SEE THIS MOVIE!!! I was a little leary about going to see Precious. The trailers on tv made it seem so depressing. However, the movie wasn't like the trailers made it seem. It actually was funny. This movie has so many life lessons in it. You think you know but you have NO idea, is one. And if you think you have it bad there is always someone that has it worse. I noticed a lot of people crying in the theatre while I was actually taking mental notes. The things that this young lady had to deal with were aweful. But to see how she projected through it all and still came out a shining star. I read the book several years ago, and the book does not compare. This movie touched my heart & soul. It was a raw, insightful, oftentimes painful look at insect, neglect, and abuse. All I can say is OMG! The life this girl had to life was deplorable. No child should have to suffer like Precious Jones did. Mo'Nique acted her behind off. Rather unusual seeing her out of her element. Just so that you do not disappointed, see the movie before you read the book.

This was an outstanding movie!!! I cried, cried and was proud of the subject matter being brought to film. This is an issue that too often gets shoved under the rug. Everyone should see this movie, no matter race or gender. You will not be disappointed. This is the first movie I have seen where I actually got my monies worth!!

A "must see" for all adults and teens. Although very sad, very inspiring to see a situation that appeared hopeless, show the possibilities of breaking a dysfunctional family pattern. Wonderful acting of all!

No words/review could have prepared me for what I saw in this film. My significant other is in the film industry and screened this movie about 3 months ago. I remember so clearly how he looked when he came home as he told me how incredible it was and how drained he looked as he got ready for bed. I thought it was just a long hard day. Now I get it! This film is extremely hard to watch. People (OF ALL RACES) were sobbing uncontrollably. Everyone should get through it once... this story needed to be told!

If this film and the two principal actors (aka actresses) are not nominated for Oscars, then there is something wrong. Not an easy film to watch, and certainly not for people who have a problem with human to human emotional contact. But if you admire great acting and want to see true reality (vs. the usual "reality" junk that is shown on US television for a mindless audience), then you must not miss "Precious".
