I read the book before seeing the movie, and I found the movie can stand on its own, while still doing Sapphire's novel justice. I thought Lee Daniels did an excellent job of tastefully and effectively portraying the range of emotions this subject matter could evoke. Mo'Nique should clear her mantle for her Oscar yesterday!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
