I grew up with the original Freddy and was bias. I came into the movies thinking that no one could do Nightmare on Elm Street better than Wes Craven or Robert Englund. I was right. But!!! The movie was really good. You go through a lot of different emotions and it's a great story line. One of the best remakes, but like I said, the original is unbeatable. I say, wait for the DVD.

The original is an extremely intelligent and quite scary film but this remake can only muster up the occasional clever moment. Here, they have decided to turn it into a procedural drama about teenagers investigating their past. The plot barely supports the characters actions (including one character who walks out on the girl he's interested because the "plot" needs them to be apart so they can each get different information... it's totally unbelievable) and there is no suspense or mood.
They obviously introduced the "micronaps" elements simply as an excuse to throw jump scares at the audience at any moment, disregarding any logic within the movie itself. This is one of those horror movies that doesn't even follow its own rules. (The nightmares are Freddy's realm... until suddenly one character enters a narrative dream that doesn't even seem controlled by Freddy... but we're told it unfolds that way because Freddy is revealing something. Then why doesn't he behave this way throughout the dreams? It doesn't make sense.)
What a huge disappointment. Pray they don't attempt a sequel.

To begin I will say dont waste your money on seeing this movie. It was very crude only four ppl die. It was predictable boring. It drag it didn't have enough bloods and guts as the originals. I think who ever decided to rate this movie R rated should be fired i would let my niece of 7 watch this she would problably just fall asleep anyways I know I did. I would honestly REVIEW this as an F-.

Being a Freddy fan, I was expecting more than given... I mean I knew it was going to be cheesy but it didn't even give you a chance to connect with the characters... The director just picked he's favorite slash scenes and filtered everything else... So there were some cool parts but I was totally disappointed. Jason's remake was way better...

Very Good movie. I was skeptical when I first ordered the tickets but I sure jumped a few times. I would give this movie two thumbs up. I think it is by far the best Nightmare on Elm St movie to date. I also hated not having Robert Englund in this movie, but the new guy (Jackie Earle Haley) did an awesome job. These movies will never get old. They resorted back to the old horror movies where you never knew where he was going to jump out. GREAT MOVIE! 5 Stars!

I am a huge fan of the series, I own every single movie but this remake just didn't do it for me. I know I am probably nitpicking and being very critical but I feel like that someone that enjoys the series so much should be. The scenes made to make you jump were too predictable. I will say that Jackie Haley did a great job portraying Freddy but I did miss the good ol' Robert Englund. The way they explained what happened to him was really interesting too. Also a few scenes were revamped and were much improved on from the original. However, they did cut out some of THE BEST scenes from NOES. Such as the booby trapping scene, and Johnny Depp being sucked into his bed and spewed out. I appreciated the remake and the effort put in to it, but nothing beats the original.

From the standpoint of one who has seen all of the original movies (and even Freddy's Nightmares on TV to show how much of a loser I am), I can honestly say I enjoyed the remake and found it well done and entertaining. That's what I went for, and that's what I got. If seasoned "Nightmare" veterans go to this movie to recapture the same level of shock and horror they experienced on the very first one, they will be sadly disappointed. Part of the effectiveness of the first one was the freshness of the whole idea of people being attacked in their dreams. You can't duplicate that for people who have seen it over and over again. But the same old shock and horror is in this movie for those (like my 20 year old son) who have never seen any of the original movies. He is a pretty tough kid, but he had to stay up watching television for a couple of hours before he could go to sleep after the midnight show.
Go see this movie--If you enjoy horror movies at all, you will enjoy this one!

I am a huge horror fan and I am not opposed to the remakes/re-imaginings that have been coming out recently. Sometimes (as in the case of Friday the 13th) they take a franchise that has exhausted a character and give it a fresh start. The imagery was impressive and it was nice to see a new actor playing Freddy (although I found myself missing Englund). The events were too close to the original for me and overly predictable. The buzz I had waiting for this release fizzled as the show went on but I enjoyed the movie.

Being a fan of the series since I was a boy, I haven't been 'impressed' by any of the films since '88 but must say the reboot was well done. Of course, NOTHING will ever compare to the original as far as innovation and originality in effects (for that time) but I definitely liked the way they re-introduced the story for the current generation and brought back a creepiness to Freddy. Not a fan of the new makeup, however.

My boyfriend being the one of the Biggest fans of the Nightmare film series was excited from beggining to end and had to go see the midnight showing on Thursday. Definitely wanna bring a friend or two to experience the chilling suspense together. I'm normally not a fan of remaking classic films, but I definitely enjoyed this one. It was a can't leave the seat til the end movie... I know the next Nightmare movie will be a good one! Everyone needs to see this fim, it brings to light the whole motive behind Freddy and his nightmarish quest to kill! Go See!

Nope. Rather disappointing I must say... I didn't expect it to be as entertaining as the original but I at least expected it to be as scary (for it's time anyway) but aside from several VERY predictable shock moments - nothing. Hell, even some of the Elm Street SEQUELS were better this. Remakes like "The Hills Have Eyes" had the right idea and the excessive violence and blood would have actually helped this out quite a bit, some films just need it and this was one of them. Oddly enough, where most remakes suffer from the pitfalls of using exact quotes and scenes as the originals, that was the one thing that I liked about this: The face in the wall, the bathtub, the body bag in the hallway and the reworkings of the gooey stairway and final attack on mom scenes were all great - but after seeing them surrounded by the rest of the movie they just didn't have the same effect. J.E. Haley's performance was actually the only thing that saved it from COMPLETE digrace - that and not portraying the cast as a bunch of beautiful people like so many of these modern "The Hills goes to Hell" horror movies. Let's hope the proposed "Hellraiser" reimagining doesn't let us down. Give me a call when Aja decides to remake "American Gothic" or "Re-Animator" THAT I would pay to see.

I was not disappointed at all with this remake. While it was more like the original than Friday The 13th was, it was really well done and they didn't try to stick a lot of blood in there to compensate. Jackie Earle Haley was excellent and I loved that they made you question whether or not he was innocent, giving an entirely different reason for the killings.

I thought that this was a very solid re-make of the original cult classic. They took the story line and showed a different aspect of it which made you see into Freddy's world a little more. The "jump" scenes were good. Its like you knew they were coming but you couldn't do anything to stop it. The first scene of the movie is a killer. Enjoy it...and don't forget to bring a friend.

Being a huge A Nightmare On Elm Street Fan I had to go see this. I went in thinking that the movie would be a complete disgrace , like every other remake coming out every other week, I was definitely wrong. The Movie itself was one of the best films Ive seen in quite a while. There were a couple things that were a little off key for me though. I wish they wouldn't have pushed the fact that Freddy messed with children as much as they did. It was always something that was known, but they never had to go into that much detail with the old ones. I dunno....just my thought...Sorta made Freddy seem a little tacky.

A true re-imagining of one of horror's greatest franchises. It truly brings to life the iconic cult classic of the 80s and makes its own. Jackie Earle Haley takes on the iconic role of Freddy and delivers without fail and really brings you into the nightmare. Fan or not of the original this is must see. Don't fall asleep or you'll miss it...(slash)... maybe not.

Wow..While staying true the the basic and (obvious) elements that MAKE Freddy Krueger LIKE THE GLOVE AND THE INFAMOUS SWEATER the writers and director clearly went for a darker and more disturbing story which changes the very essence of the character like when Freddy shouts ( what do you think I did ? I didn't do anything!) Possibly suggesting that he was an innocent man wrongfully killed and through the kids dreams he seeks his revenge rather than being a guilty child murderer continuing his craft in the dreams of children. Will this remake float above the recent fails? or will drop like an anchor? All we can do is wait and be satisfied until judgment day comes April 30th 2010.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
