Nope. Rather disappointing I must say... I didn't expect it to be as entertaining as the original but I at least expected it to be as scary (for it's time anyway) but aside from several VERY predictable shock moments - nothing. Hell, even some of the Elm Street SEQUELS were better this. Remakes like "The Hills Have Eyes" had the right idea and the excessive violence and blood would have actually helped this out quite a bit, some films just need it and this was one of them. Oddly enough, where most remakes suffer from the pitfalls of using exact quotes and scenes as the originals, that was the one thing that I liked about this: The face in the wall, the bathtub, the body bag in the hallway and the reworkings of the gooey stairway and final attack on mom scenes were all great - but after seeing them surrounded by the rest of the movie they just didn't have the same effect. J.E. Haley's performance was actually the only thing that saved it from COMPLETE digrace - that and not portraying the cast as a bunch of beautiful people like so many of these modern "The Hills goes to Hell" horror movies. Let's hope the proposed "Hellraiser" reimagining doesn't let us down. Give me a call when Aja decides to remake "American Gothic" or "Re-Animator" THAT I would pay to see.
