The original is an extremely intelligent and quite scary film but this remake can only muster up the occasional clever moment. Here, they have decided to turn it into a procedural drama about teenagers investigating their past. The plot barely supports the characters actions (including one character who walks out on the girl he's interested because the "plot" needs them to be apart so they can each get different information... it's totally unbelievable) and there is no suspense or mood.
They obviously introduced the "micronaps" elements simply as an excuse to throw jump scares at the audience at any moment, disregarding any logic within the movie itself. This is one of those horror movies that doesn't even follow its own rules. (The nightmares are Freddy's realm... until suddenly one character enters a narrative dream that doesn't even seem controlled by Freddy... but we're told it unfolds that way because Freddy is revealing something. Then why doesn't he behave this way throughout the dreams? It doesn't make sense.)
What a huge disappointment. Pray they don't attempt a sequel.
