I had my doubts. Hype sells movies, but it also makes me cautious. I won't say that this is the best movie that I've ever seen. It is overdone in many respects and some of the acting is silly, but visually, it is stunning. Imagine fields of exotic plants and tropical forests lush with vines and verdant green moss covered fallen trees, bionic ferocious animals, exotic elongated "people" that ride flying dragons, coffin-like transformers that turn "us" into "them"--all quite fantastical and worth a watch, for sure. The 3-D was exciting and fun. Quite a ride.

Extremely entertaining and beautiful to watch. Only negative is the inconvenience of Sold Out Showtimes and the 1 hour line to enter the theater once you have tickets in hand.

I first saw the movie in a regular theater and not in 3D. WOW! Visually - the most stunning experience of all time! A few weeks later I saw in 3D IMAX - although it was fun to see the movie (any movie in 3D for that matter) in 3D I was less than impressed. The 3D glassed muted the spectacular visuals and colours. I would still recommend - BUT I recommend seeing in a regular theater as well.

I went to see Avatar in 3D at the Imax theatre at Buckland Showcase Cinemas, Manchester, CT. The movie was absolutely amazing. I thought graphics were incredible, story line was entertaining, and actors were phenomenal. The 3D aspect of the movie wasn't so much things coming out at you, besides snowflakes, but depth into the screen. It literally looked like I could stand up and walk down a hallway to sit with the actors. The IMAX part of it... I wasn't so impressed. This was my first IMAX experience. I was expecting a screen that went up onto the ceilings and the walls-which it didn't. It was maybe 2.5x the size of a normal screen. If you want to see this movie, don't pay double on IMAX... just go see it in 3D.

This movie could be better.THE GOOD: CGI is amazing, IMAX 3D added so much to the experience. DIDN'T see any blurring. The concept was interesting & believable. Most elements - animals, weapons, Avatar "powers", ability to comm. with nature etc were convincing. When it’s out on DVD, the ONLY way to buy this will be 3D. Don't go to the movies unless it's in 3D-IMAX is even better.
BAD:The story is SO PREDICTABLE. The lines were cheesy (ok in a children's movie). The director seemed torn between making this a movie for children or for adults. NOT a movie for young children. If made a children's PG movie it EASILY would've been so much better OR make the story a LOT more involved than the simple good guy, bad guy/ corp.

We really connect to the spiritual aspect of this movie. Very warm and touching and a "wake up call" about our environment and earth. Was not particularily happy with the violence, but realize it's part of the meaning behind the movie. Visual affects were good, but found myself a bit queazy at times from the 3D visuals. All else was great.

Nothing new plot wise. A good old fashioned Comboys and Indian movie. But very fun and fast and beautiful in 3D. Nice to have the Indians win for a change.

I hadn't been to an IMAX movie in quite a few years, so it was very nice to return to the huge screen for a movie like this. The 3-D version is definitely the way to go, if you haven't seen the movie yet. Great visuals, and despite the fact that the story was very dervivative (think "Dances with Wolves" meets "Star Trek" without the prime directive!), I thought that the movie went rather briskly. Sigourney Weaver was great, as usual, and I barely recognized Stephen Lang as the nasty colonel--I remember him from a great eighties TV series, "Crime Story". I recommend the movie to anyone who likes science fiction, fantasy, or adventure movies.

The technology was amazing, During some of the faster scenes in the movie there was some blurryness.
The plot was nothing more than Fern Gully on steroids, a lot more violence and a lot of hits on the military. There were a lot of cheesy lines. The typical non acceptance of the new guy into the existing culture was lame and not really believeable. It was like.."You are not welcome, we will kill you!"
Ten Seconds later it is "Oh well since mom said its ok..Welcome"
The movie does not ever get boring, but a life altering expience? Maybe, because I know I will never wait in line for an overhyped movie in 5 degree weather ever again in my life time, so yes I guess my life was altered a bit.

This is a perfect movie. It has so many moments that had me close to tears - either of sadness or joy - that I left the theater feeling worn out! It is not just very beautiful to watch, it is really very well put together. I did not think the dialog or story was cheesy - the general plot is similar to many other stories, but it was done so well that I didn't mind. I saw the movie with a friend, and 3 days later took my wife, who was also very moved by many scenes.

Probably -- undoubtedly -- the most visually stunning movie I've ever seen. Not the best film (it had a tendency towards cliche, and the story was derivative of a number of indigenous societies vs. modern culture plots), but watching was a true pleasure. I felt like a kid seeing "The Wizard of Oz" for the first time. I don't know that I would vote for it as best film this year (that honor belongs to "The Hurt Locker" for my money). But it was certainly the most amazing film.

It's been years since I bothered going to a theater to see a film, since it's so much more convenient from my living room. But, with all the hype, I thought I'd take a chance. I am so glad I did! I went mostly to take in the 3D, but was so drawn into the film, I couldn't budge from my seat. The story line might not be for everyone, but it truly connected with me. The effects, even without the 3D, were mind boggling. And, with the sound booming all around me, I took heart in knowing I wasn't disturbing any of my neighbors as I might from home. I thought the ending was a bit predictable, but that took nothing away from the overall film. I may even venture out of my living room to see it again!

Wow, the technology behind this movie is truly amazing. The colors and the cinematography were so vibrant - very creative.
I really liked the fact that the movie has a spiritual side to it (which is rare). The story was a bit predictable, but I still enjoyed it.

I thought the movie was excellent! The effects were incredible! I remember seeing 3D movies as a kid with the little paper glasses! The technology has advanced sooooo much over the years. The only complaint I had was that the glass were bulky and combersome and I needed to take them off from time to time.

See the Movie in IMAX 3D for an experience you can't forget. This movie will surpass Titanic. About 25 percent of the people at the screening I attended had seen the movie before but wanted the IMAX 3D experience. Good character development of Aliens but sky people were cliche. And I know a Marine would not sell out his brothers in arms for a female but that is the story line we have to accept to get the great visual effects.

Ok I bought into the hype and saw the 3D Imax. the effects were awesome and the creativity in creating this world was inspiring. The sad part is that the story was so unoriginal and unimaginative that if not for the special effects and 3D I probably would have left. Corporations are evil, humans are destroyers of everything good, only the planet is pure...blah, blah, blah. I can appreciate the spiritual side being inspiring, but come on, if you are going to spend the YEARS to develop the movie get a real plot line and make it interesting.

The movie was over hyped. Yes the colors and the scenes were beautiful and sometimes hypnotic. But the lengh and cheesy lines made it hard to swallow. I was told i would be mistaken if i didnt see it in IMAX 3D. But really the 3D was blurry during some of the faster action scenes and, at times, it was too much. I would love to see it in my own home without the 3D. There were scenes i would have liked to see shortened. The violence was too much to be enjoyed by small kids. Its one you should consider to watch, but don't buy into the hype that its life altering. Its an average movie with awesome special effects.

The movie visually is beautiful and really amazing. For this reason it's a must-see in a theatre in IMAX 3D. The script is so-so, the lines got pretty cheesy. Some of the scenes were a bit long. Overall the movie was really long. I got a little bored during the middle but then it picked up again. There were spiritual aspects of the movie I really enjoyed! Overall, go see it in the theater. I don't think I could watch a second time unless it's at home and I can pause it, etc...

I caught myself at least 3 times in the movie literally jaw dropped, in awe. This movie is amazing - I think that any negativity about this movie is quite subjective nit-picky banter. Watch it in IMAX - it will definitely change your life!

Avatar is riveting--the special effects, alone, make this movie a must-see. The storyline beckons the viewer to visually, mentally, emotionally--even spiritually--engage in a comparison of two worlds. The transition is painful, at times. All that is good and all that is evil in humankind is represented in this film. Those viewers who love futuristic fantasies will not be disappointed.
