Great special effect, nice story line. Why not 5 stars? Should have had some battles between the natives and the corporation to show how bad the place realy was; it was mentioned that the trees form a neural net but no consequence of that was demonstrated; and some oversimplified political statements - why, in 2150, are all the "bad" guys WASPS?
But great side stories (the hammer head beast, the transferance of personality, etc)

The kids and I really loved this movie. The special effects were wonderful and make this a must see movie. Definitely will buy it on dvd but it won't be the same as seeing it on 3D Imax.

While the IMAX 3D effecst were spectacular the story line should have been StarShip Troopers meet Fern Gully with a little of the Matrix and Lion King mixed in. Also our theatre was about 90+ degrees... was that part of the effect? I felt like I was in the jungle!!

This was as visually spectacular as anticipated, and you truly don't realize just how much so until you actually experience it in 3D IMAX.Nothing about the effects are overdone or obnoxious. The plot was...predictable, to say the least. If you think it's going to happen, it happens. Needless to say, there isn't much about it that's close to realistic, but even within the suspension of disbelief, some of the action scenes get a little too wild to remain remotely plausible. Some of the themes get a little cliche at times as well. There aren't too many surprises to the story, but the concept and characters are original enough to keep it interesting, it moves fast, and the effects are mind blowing.

To keep it short, "Avatar" is absolutely worth seeing, especially in 3D IMAX.
If for some reason you're not moved by the well told (if not totally original) story, you will at least be blown away by some of the most exciting war sequences to hit the big screen.
The movie really should get a 4.5/5 since the story is a bit derivative, but it's incredibly well told and MT.com doesnt have 4.5, so I have no qualms about rounding up.

Utterly amazing movie, A MUST see in Imax as the graphics will simply wow you. This is the first movie i can think of where i saw true life in the eyes of the CGI characters. They felt 100% real, and never once did anything on them look off the wall. Despite the fact that this is set over 100 years in the future there wasn't Massive Ray guns, teleporting, ETC that a viewer simply can't relate with because of present tech.
This has plenty for both men and women, as a warning do everything you need to BEFORE the movie. You will not leave once it starts I promise you.

If you have never been to an Imax movie this is the one to go to first! Even if you are an old veteran to the Imax this is a must see movie. I have heard critics say there wasn't much of a plot, I think they must have slept thru the show I saw. Avatar has a great plot and has something for everyone. I liked it so much I've been twice this past weekend. If you only go to one movie this year make it this one!

I would strongly reccomend this movie to anyone, no matter what type of movies they like. This was a mind-blowing experience, and the concept of a whole nother planet like that was brilliant. This movie was awsome!!!. My husband, son and his girlfriend drove from Wichita KS to the Quail Springs Mall in Oklahoma City last Sunday just to see it in 3-D IMAX and it was well worth the trip. We were all impressed and the story was wonderful. I even ducked when a smoke grenade came at me on the screen. I loved it and would recommend to anyone.

Great, no doubt. It needed a more memorable score (where was John Williams?). See only in 3-D and IMax. Lacked a "Wow" factor, such as the lead-in from Star Wars and the first dinosaur in Jurassic Park. But, overall, anyone over 13 who likes movies should see this one. It is the most spectacular movie of the year.

This was a great movie experience almost 3 hours long and it felt like it only lasted an hour and a half. Lots of excitement and action. Its obvious they took a lot from the history of the american indian and the invasion of the anglo saxons from europe, with a surprizing twist at the end. The special effects are spectacular and the IMAX experience was magnificent.

Story line and dialogue were fairly predictable, but still ok. We had very high expectations pertaining to the visuals, and are still stunned with the beauty and creativity of Pandora and all of the "creatures". I highly recommend seeing this in IMAX 3-D. Anything else seems like a total waste. If this is going to set a new standard, I can't begin to imagine where it will go from here.

The plot is from a 1950's type western.
Land barons want Indian land. U.S. Calvary comes in to force indians to flee. Indians resist, call in other tribes. It's The Little Bighorn all over again. Reminds me of yhe first 3D movie I ever saw "the Charge at Feather River"
Maybe it is another Hollywood remake. Seems like all we get these days.

This was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.The special effects of this movie were awesome to say the least. This movie pulls you and and keeps your attention from the beginning. My only piece of advice is that you arrive to the movie early so that you can get a good seat. I was sitting slightly below the bottom of the screen, at times I had to close my eyes and turn my head when watching the movie so that I wouldnt get(motion sick) from the 3D coming right into my face. Also the edges of the screen were mildly blurred for me. I definitely plan on going back to see this movie again after the holidays. ..
