This was as visually spectacular as anticipated, and you truly don't realize just how much so until you actually experience it in 3D IMAX.Nothing about the effects are overdone or obnoxious. The plot was...predictable, to say the least. If you think it's going to happen, it happens. Needless to say, there isn't much about it that's close to realistic, but even within the suspension of disbelief, some of the action scenes get a little too wild to remain remotely plausible. Some of the themes get a little cliche at times as well. There aren't too many surprises to the story, but the concept and characters are original enough to keep it interesting, it moves fast, and the effects are mind blowing.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
