Yes, I would recomend this movie. The technical aspects of 3-D in I-Max are very good and worth the price of admission. Keep in mind that the movie is loaded with political under-tones and go green environmental messages. If you look beyond the messages the CGI is seamless.

Loved the movie and the special effects. James Cameron's imagination is one of a kind and worth the movie experience.
Even if you buy the tickets online there is approx an hour line up outside the theater to get the good seats... we there 15 mins before the movie could begin and the only seat we got were the first row seats right in front of the screen. Which was bit too much for the eyes...
Get there early and enjoy! We will go back again, maybe in a months time.

The best sci fi movie in the last 30 years. Must see in IMAX 3D...well worth the price. Story is compelling and captivating. Graphics and effects are stunning!! I will go see it again because it is just that good. I took my children (8 & 10 years old) to see the movie with me and it kept them entertained from start to finish. Absolutely must see this movie even if you don't like sci fi movies....it is incredible!!

economy is tough and the money is tight. But if you can spare 10 bucks, this is the movie you have to go see, a lifetime experience. I was dragged to watch the IMAX 3D of this movie and I thought I wasted the money. But no, not only I am still amazed at the movie but I will go see again. I don't want to write anything more here. Mark my words, every penny you spent here is well worth it.

So this is the follow-up review request RE: Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience. Unfortunately we did not see it. Walking in to the theater for a 4:15pm showing @ 3:45pm - it was packed. AMC should have had a employee with a megaphone telling everyone to move to the center of the stadium in order to accommodate more patrons. So we got our IMAX refunds and saw another movie. A notice at the service desk was offering a $3/hour incentive for AMC employees to work the holidays. How appropriate. We will wait until the euphoria has worn off.

...the projectionist at the AMC Empire 25 was asleep at the wheel, or something. The movie started 10 minutes late and then somehow kept getting interfered with - the left side would go dark for no reason for a second unpredictably. Very distracting, and for $17.50 there should be no screw-ups.

I really enjoy good Sci-Fi but I was very leery about the use of 3D...I have often found it cheesy and distracting from the movie. I was also wondering whether the new cgi technology would match the hype. Well, for once the technology blew right past the hype. Cameron mixes a simple but powerful story with jaw-dropping effects. We really were on Pandora...not some location in Hawaii made up to look the part. That was the fastest 2 hours 40 minutes I have ever spent in the theater and the only disappointment was that the movie ended. A must see for all ages.

A combination of the A-Team, Rambo, MASH, Dances with Wolves, Gorillas in the Mist, and a touch of a handful of other anti-establishment, preachy stories with a bit too much in your face messaging. Not that I disagree with the anti-colonial, anti-corporate, anti-imperialism sentiment.
The execution of this repackage story was incredible. I don't recall a better design of an alien world complete with creative and appealing creatures and plants.
The characters were somewhat flat. I am not sure why a huge budget movies like this didn't warrant a better main lead.
Overall, a must see for movie buffs but the movie suffered from a contrived plot-line.

Terrific movie without the washed out color of most 3D movies. At 160 minutes it never drags but flows nicely to a predictable climax. Rich textural elements don't make up for a wooden Sam Worthington but everyone else in the cast shines brightly enough to make this a highlight of the Oscar season.

It was action packed and emotionally driven film. The action was maybe too fast for the 3D format as I sometimes lost the detail from the fast moving scenes. I have to see it in IMAX 2D to really offer a fair opinion as to which format to see it in but overall it is a must see film

I was keen to watch Avatar just like most of others by hearing good feedback and reviews. So I booked online and for the first time in US, waited in queue of 200 folks eager to watch Avatar on 3D.
The film is excellent on its own. Hats off to the idea and imaginations that was maintained and pushed throughout the film. Music BGM score was extra ordinary.
If any one who does not care about reality in the story line could definitely watch this move and it is worth spending $12+ bucks for Avatar on 3D.

I read one critic's review that said Avatar was successful because you cared about the characters. And you do. Practically from the get go. And within moments of the film starting, you forget you're wearing silly glasses and sitting elbow to elbow in a packed theatre. Great film. Very entertaining. And worth every penny to see it in IMAX 3D. (Well it's worth every penny to see it, period, there's just a lot more to see in IMAX 3D.)

This is one movie you must see in IMAX 3D. There is no way you can fully experience how technologically advanced this movie is and get the full effect watching this on your home screen. I agree with others that felt the characteristics of the Navi, and storyline could be the American Indian in an alternate Universe. The plot is the classic tale of greed and power we have seen in other movies and real life as far back as history has been recorded . However, the remaking of this classic storyline is beyond anything done in the past and is one of a kind you shouldn't miss. I plan on going to see it a second time because I am sure there was no way I was able to take in all the visuals the first time.

Baring ONE tribal like moment that seemed like a drag, there was nothing below the excellent level.
The IMAX experience wasn't too mindblowing and I think I could have lived with the normal screens for the movie. Or maybe, I can only compare the quality if I see the movie on normal screen again.

This was the kind of visual experience that we go to the movies for. If you see this in IMAX, you will be immersed into this movie for 2 and a half hours. Intense, interesting story. Plot is a bit predictable, and the "bad guys" are a bit trite, but it doesn't take away from the action or the AMAZING visuals. I'd put this with the first Lord of the Rings movie as one of the best action/adventure movies I've seen.

James Cameron's Avatar has a decent story line, (tree huggers will love it) but the new system he has developed to film this movie is truly revolutionary. This is not the old 3D that is laughable or induces motion sickness. The new technology draws you into the film, there is depth and it is crystal clear. Definitely a film that must be seen on the big screen and I would highly recommend seeing it on IMAX. I can only equate the Avatar revolution to movies going from black and white to color. I am a combat helicopter pilot and the flight sequences were just like flying in Hawaii, the tracers looked a little too real at times.

Saw Avatar in I-Max & 3D yesterday. It was incredible. Good story and computer generated scenery was beautiful. Producer/writer James Cameron has a great imagination. Many scenes were set in high places & with 3D a fear of falling can kick in. Want to see it again or maybe buy the DVD to see what I missed the first time. A little intense at times but otherwise safe for kids; rated PG-13. Worth the $13 ticket!

My family and I saw this movie at the IMAX theater in 3D. It was completely awesome! Yes, the plot was similar to other movies in that some culture wants to take over the land of the indiginous people, but it was so much more than that! The creativity and imagination of the writers and cinematographers was amazing! I would (and have) suggested all my friends and family see this movie.

Without the new 3D effects and the giant screen, I WOULD say wait for the video; as others have pointed out, this is probably Cameron's weakest story and dialogue. But with these incredible technical add-ons, I say go NOW and see it. The film is a beautiful, technical marvel that was at least never boring (similar to "2012"), and I'm glad that I spent the extra money to see it in Imax 3D. If I ever rent the video, it would be to see the bonus features of how the movie was made.

From the opening scene to the end this Imax experience was trulyan eye popping experience. The special effetcs were most memorable; story line appealing. WE just loved the Avatar creatures.
This is a movie to see over and over again; because you will always see something you missed the last time.

First you forget the big plastic glasses. Then you forget that it's cgi. Then you get caught up in the story, a science-fiction twist in which the mechanistic, imperial earthlings get their comeuppance by the aliens. Think Pocohantas, with a better outcome. See it in 3D, see it on Imax. A compelling and fully realized alien experience.

I saw this in an IMAX theater and not only were the graphics so amazing that I felt as if I were there running through the forest and flying with the avatars, but the story was incredible, too. It is the best movie I ever experienced and Mr. Cameron is a genius!
