Nothing to write home about. I thought the 3D experience in IMAX would enhance the overall experience - but felt that Avatar was much better (even though it supposedly uses one generation back of 3D cameras.
So, it has been over a week since the initial opening - so I took advantage of going to a Sony 4K large screen showing of Iron Man 2. Definitely recommend that you see this spectacle on a large screen (IMAX also?). One of my favorite actors, Jon Favreau both directs (for the 2nd time) and also is present more as an actor. A couple of comedic settings with Jon made my day. Can't wait to see Iron Man 3, and of course - the Avenger series.
So this is the follow-up review request RE: Avatar: An IMAX 3D Experience. Unfortunately we did not see it. Walking in to the theater for a 4:15pm showing @ 3:45pm - it was packed. AMC should have had a employee with a megaphone telling everyone to move to the center of the stadium in order to accommodate more patrons. So we got our IMAX refunds and saw another movie. A notice at the service desk was offering a $3/hour incentive for AMC employees to work the holidays. How appropriate. We will wait until the euphoria has worn off.
This is not an IMAX presentation. It is being displayed in an IMAX theatre. Because of that - it is quite visually dark - and does not take advantage of the entire screen or sound system.
I would recommend the movie in a normal theatre venue.
Medium expectations as to how much comedy that this movie was going to provide. So - pro's to go: - not a horror flick - nothing to do with Iraq - previous movies (40 yr virgin, etc.) Con's - not as much laughter as I expected - does not require much thought
