Forget what you know about the 3-D format. Forget the annoying glasses, the cheap thrills of things jumping out at you. Consider the potential of a movie using the format to immerse you in an entirely different world. Avatar is the perfect movie for 3-D IMAX.
Avatar in 3-D IMAX has instantly rocketed to my list of my top ten favorite movies of all time. I love all James Cameron's movies, and I'm an action junkie and incurable romantic. This movie had everything. The story was solid, the world-building was superb, the characters were compelling, and the lead character grew and changed in satisfying ways. I would strongly recommend this film to anyone.

My husband and I were in awe from start to finish. The movie was action packed from start to finish. The 3D experience was incredible! I rarely see movies twice, but this is one I definitely want to watch again.

I wasn't sure about seeing this movie ...being practically 3 hours (with 4 movie previews prior), yet the time (and plot of the movie) went extremely fast from start to finish. The coloring, sound, effects were amazing! My husband, who doesn't do well in motion rides at the Orlando parks, had no problem viewing Avatar in 3D. There is a lot of warfare but it isn't gory. Our teenager really liked it for the computer animation.
I totally recommend this film via IMAX, 3D; get your tickets early for this movie was sold out 3 hours prior. (As we walked out of the movie, many were stating what a great producer / director J. Cameron is, and that they will recommend it to friends.)

Visually amazing! This, however makes it only worth watching in IMAX 3D. The story is pretty good but not original. The acting was fair. The main character (whom I think was supposed to be American) kept slipping into an Australian accent, which was a bit distracting. But the shear artistic vision for this movie cannot be denied. It's basically like a nearly three hour Disneyland ride. it truly takes you to a new world, which is alive and wild. Everyone should experience it at least once. It will be one of those movies of our generation.

This is a must see in 3D! Very well done...and thankfully, they didn't go overboard with the 3D effect. Other 3D movies constantly use gimmicky things to fly objects at the audience just because they can. Not Avatar, the 3D was a nice subtle effect that really does enhance the experience.
The plot line is pretty predictable. Basically Star Wars meets Dances With Wolves...but, it still is compelling.
Does it live up to the hype? I think that it does. I would definately see it again.

Saw Avatar 3-D at a local theater about 3 weeks ago. Thought it was the most amazing movie experience I have ever had. One of my daughters had not been so I asked if she would like to see in in IMAX 3-D, so we went on 1/2. I must say that I enjoyed it just as much, if not more, the second time around. My daughter was speechless. I would recommend IMAX 3-D for this movie and I would do it again.

I've now seen Avatar twice, for its incredible beauty. Both times I wished I hadn't had to suffer through James Cameron's cliched plot and (ironically) one-dimensional writing. Next time, Jim, hire a writer. 0ne star penalty. See this in Imax 3D. It will blow your mind. Try not to see it, however, at the Hoffman 22 cinema in Alexandria, VA, where the kiosks spit your tickets onto the floor, the restrooms have no running water and, at show's end, the staff happily leads patrons out to a mezzanine with no exit. Ha Ha! The joke's on the $!6 ticket buyer!

I HATE science fiction and I'd say this is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Took my 8 year old to see - only comment, SOME foul language, fighting scenes. WE LOVED IT!

i saw this movie in chicago over christmas with my son but we couldnt get an imax theatre as they were sold out everytime so we just went to a regular 3D and we loved it. when i came back to kentucky i took my friend to see it at an imax theatre and we had to drive 2 hours to get there (why arent you in louisville kentucky???) but it was so worth it. my friend doesnt think very many things are amazing but he did with this movie. it was so much better at the imax. how very intriguing even the 2nd time around. the effects were really amazing almost like you were there in it. i will be telling more friends and will probably see it again when it comes to louisville.

In a word...OUTSTANDING. Regular 2D for this particular movie is like seeing a regular movie in black & white. It felt like being there. Seeing Pandora was like visiting the planet. Truly amazing. No other way to see this film.

Just saw Avatar 3D at the IMAX and was blown away. The visual effects in this movie were top notch, nothing in it had that "fake" look to it. The movie was over 2.5 hours long, and it just flew by. A must see for the family.

full of clichés, needlessly long, transparent story. I went to the cinema to see a good movie, but I almost slept.
Besides, "first come first served" system is a catastrophe. People have to come to cinema two hours before the movie time to get a good place. Instead, AMC and other American cinemas should implement the European system which lets the customers choose their seats online, before coming to cinema.
Apart from this, the exit stairs are too narrow, I can't imagine people trying to escape in a time of panic.
Overall, the staff of AMC are very kind, the theatre is successful in terms of the sound and vision quality. But the AVATAR, too boring.

AVATAR is a great visual effects film. I would recommend seeing it in IMAX 3D to get the full impact of James Cameron’s vision. The film held my interest the entire time and I did not notice it was long. This was possibly because of the visual beauty and novelty. The plot was predictable. It lacked emotional impact although the potential was there. The 3D glasses made my eyes water which created tears. Once during a dialogue scene between humans, I closed my eyes to rest them.

AVATAR: The IMAX 3D experience was so satisfying that it greatly exceeded my high expectations. Don't go into this movie expecting clever plot twists, shades of gray, or ambiguous character motivations. This isn't that kind of movie. AVATAR, despite its high-tech creation, is a very old-fashioned kind of film. The storytelling moves in a straight line from start to finish, and takes the viewer on a fantastic journey onto another world. The 3D effect and huge IMAX screen only facilitate the viewer's full and total immersion into that world. James Cameron has truly outdone himself this time. He is a master filmmaker, and the crew and cast of this film deserve every penny that is coming to them. I give this film my highest rating.

While I would agree that the plot is formulaic (arrogant corporate/emperialistic archtypes try to take what they want from a technologically unsophisticated race), that doesn't reduce the impact of the movie (hey, it's sci-fi, action/adventure). But in true sci-fi tradition, the development of the alien culture and environment is sufficiently alien to be exotic and sufficiently terrestrial to be familiar. The soundtrack is rich and powerful, the visuals are awe-inspiring and the live-action/CGI interface is flawless. I only wish I could give it SIX stars.

The first hour of the movie was really good, but didn't live up to the hype I'd heard. The last hour and 1/2 was fantastic; I got totally lost in the movie. The only bad thing was the cigarette smoking by the lead scientist character - totally unnecessary, contrived, and just plain dumb.

Without question the best cinematography of any movie I have ever seen. Fabulous action and 3D was phenomenal.
However, like several other posters, I saw no difference in the imax 3D and regular 3D. If someone knows the real difference please post it. The screen in imax, as others mentioned was possibly even smaller than the regular screen.
The storyline is very predictable (the old classic that the big corporate guys and bad military are killing the planet and the locals and environment all suffer, like the old west movies where the big Oil Tycoons destroy the farmers and try to take their land etc).
I will watch it again in 3D just for the cinematography and effects. One of the greatest ever made.

I very much enjoyed this movie as it had many hidden messages. Anti War (gulf war for oil), how many power full states in history distroyed indiginous population such as Red Indians, Amazon forest in Latin America etc. Another message if you destroy peoples reglious symbols you destroy their faith in this movies such as scraed tree which was hidden in the movie.
Drama and action was great in this movie looking to see the movie again.

Possibly one of the best movies ever made.
I am at loss as to why some people have said this has no plot , I think they are the same people who use 51% of the worlds energy with no regret.
This movie had so much story in it , in so many levels , I.E. Greed , Love , Honour , Compassion , and Betrayal .
James cameron has raised the bar when it comes to sci fi adventure movies.

This movie puts all other sci-fi to shame. Regarding the plot, the theme of this movie is very similar to the message that John Perkins talks about in "Confesssions of an Economic Hitman" putting this movie in a very political category. Read this book then see the movie, will make a lot of sense of what is actually going on in the world.

First and foremost the movie is excellent from story, action, to visuals , it simply could not be better A+.
I went to Aventura Mall to watch this movie and I must say that I am NEVER going there again.
* Rude people who work there
* Too MANY people, there is NEVER any parking
* Too expensive, $5.00+ for a small soda?
* Very, Very uncomfortable 3d-glasses
Imax 3d is not worth the extra money . The glasses are always dirty, very uncomfortable, and just not very good at all.
I like the concept of 3d but until they make better glasses or another way for us to experience it , it's just not worth it.
ps. Aventura Mall must be the most populated are in the world, I hate that place....

what a great movie! It was exciting and well paced. James Cameron has made a masterpiece and while it isn't exactly a Citizen Kane, it is nevertheless a great film.
The film may be two hours and 40 minutes long but it does not appear to be that long because of the way that it moves along. The characters are well developed and the story line intriguing. Tthe interaction between the two main characters carry the weight of the film along with a great performance by the actor who plays the head of security.
I highly recommend this film-but make sure you see it on IMAX screen or you will miss out on something special.
I can now forgive James Cameron for making that sentimental sappy movie Titanic, LMAO!

Groundbreaking, compelling, magical. While some challenge the story, no one challenges the groundbreaking technology or the best 3D there ever was. But I thought the story was also compelling on many levels. It's more than action ... it's a love story, a green story, a story about war and its history. But folks, it is also fantasy with gorgeously sumptuous cinematography. A must see.
