I really liked this movie, and thought J-Lo and Alex had great chemistry. Like others, I howled in places! Yeah, it's not Oscar material, but it's a great chick flick. However, I disagree with the rating. I saw it with my 13-year-old daughter, and she was uncomfortable with the numerous sexual and childbirth references. Guess I should have known, huh? But I thought these were way over the top.
Forget what you know about the 3-D format. Forget the annoying glasses, the cheap thrills of things jumping out at you. Consider the potential of a movie using the format to immerse you in an entirely different world. Avatar is the perfect movie for 3-D IMAX.
Avatar in 3-D IMAX has instantly rocketed to my list of my top ten favorite movies of all time. I love all James Cameron's movies, and I'm an action junkie and incurable romantic. This movie had everything. The story was solid, the world-building was superb, the characters were compelling, and the lead character grew and changed in satisfying ways. I would strongly recommend this film to anyone.
I took four 10-year-old girls to this movie, and they were bored, but much to their embarrassment I was enjoying the movie immensely and even sobbing at the end. My first dog acted just like Marley, so my enjoyment of the book and movie was wrapped up in memories of her. You will also love it if you like to see the inner workings of a marriage and a man's coming of age. If all you want is a cute dog movie, take the kids to see Hotel for Dogs instead.
Parents, there are a number of sexual references, including crude remarks about Marley getting neutered and a number of references to pregnancy and trying to have a baby. It will probably go over your child's head, but might make you uncomfortable. Take a dog-loving girlfriend instead.
