I thought the movie was good. It shows both sides of being fired. It was like an emotional rollar coaster of a movie. It also shows what goes on in the real modern business world. I thought the actors did a great job.

This movie was a lot more somber than I expected going in but nevertheless enjoyable. This is a movie about love, romance, human connections and pleasure and how those ideas change with age. The back story of corporate "hatchet" work turned the mood a little dark but there were plenty of moments of humor. I probably identified with every character or had a friend that fit the character so it made it much more realistic and meaningful. Don't expect the traditional Hollywood ending though.

This movie was a welcome change to the usual romantic Hollywood ending. I did enjoy this movie more than my husband.. he would have given it 3/5 stars.
Only reason why I didn't give this movie a full 5 stars was because of the slow start and the Clooney typecast. I love Clooney, but he's such a one trick pony. I assumed that the relationship between him and Alex would not work. I didn't know how it would happen, but the fact that Clooney played the character gave it away.

George Clooney does an excellent job portraying a corporate terminator. His life style will not be appreciated by the majority, but the accomplishment of his mission should be easily understood. During this extreme recession, hundreds of thousands of fellow citizens have been terminated. I am sure some in the manner portrayed in the movie. Emotional reactions will be varied, but all should have sympathy for the terminated. Corporations, and governments have all downsized. It is not funny business, thus the movie is not a comedy. The acting by all is very good.

Saw this movie last night, about 6 weeks after it opened. Theater still packed. Went last weekend but it was sold out. Not sure why after seeing it. Good but not the "great movie" everybody talks about. Clooney is very good and believable in his role. His apprentice (Natalie Keener) is somewhat steroetypical and predictable. Some funny parts interrupted by some pointless drama. Needed to be edited to about 15 minutes shorter than it was. Tried too hard to be a comedy, drama, romantic, have a message movie and came up short on each of those but still good in the sum of their parts. Disappointed that Jason Bateman didn't have any funny lines....lost potential for his character there.

I did not fully know the story line of the movie, and was quite uncomfortable with it. You see, I am one of those people who sat across the desk and heard that for no fault of my own, after 20 years, I was no longer needed/wanted by my employer. The cold, uncaring, corporate culture just stuck the needle in me again. Knowing that it is happening to hundreds of thousands across our country is no comfort. I had heard all of the hype about this movie and really like Clooney but was disappointed overall. While there were a few fun spots in the movie, it's FAR from being a comedy. Agree with many other reviews -- the acting was good but the movie itself is quite depressing. You could feel it when the movie ended -- everybody just sat there in the theatre... dead silence. What a waste of money.

Outstanding film. It a statement of what is happing in USA today. The filmmakers did not miss a beat, it is very clever and insightful. A must see if you want to know what is really happining throughout this country. The American Dream is Up in the Air.

Gave it 4 b/c I liked it. Broke new ground in a new way. Acting was very good, esp. Clooney. Topic was thought provoking but depressing. May want to wait to see it on video. Attendance was light and 50+. Buzz on the way out was a little negative, but probably people don't go out a lot, want to be entertained and still expect Hollywood endings.
