I had heard all of the hype about this movie and really like Clooney but was disappointed overall. I realize some will say it has a deeper and darker meaning in the realm of life and the state we are all in at this time, that should be appreciated - and that is true at some level, yet there was nothing entertaining, clever or even artistic and the movie left me wishing I had chosen differently. It is a "day in the life" and all one needs to do is step out of the house to witness such things - no need to pay for it.
We often see a movie and say "If that happened to me I would..." Finally a movie that shows us what that looks like - and then some. Butler's character shows skill, patience and much perseverance as he skillfully plots and executes his retaliation in an attempt to teach Fox's character an important lesson in Justice. This story is well thought out and very entertaining - go see it.
Before I went to see this movie I was warned that I would be disappointed and probably not understand the ending unless I first read the books, that it was obviously a low budget movie, and that the lead actors were not up to par visually. Contrary to what I was told, I found the movie relatively simple to follow and understand and the actors believable in their parts and very entertaining. There were some corny moments and a few instances that more care in the make-up department may have been called for but on the whole I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it. With a few more dollars and lessons from this experience to utilize I'm sure the next movie will be closer to what the avid book readers expect.
Mike Meyers is a natural comic and knows how to make us laugh. This movie wasn't as well thought out nor as clever as the Austin Powers movies and so might be somewhat disappointing to some, but still was a very funny movie and well worth recommending.
