"Up in the Air" was good, but definitely not what I thought it would be. The movie was extremely profound, leaving the viewer with a lot to think about, kind of like in a Nick Hornby film. While some of the dialogue in the movie is dead on and great, my friend and I both saw the plot twist coming and remained a little unclear about the ending. Not the best picture this year.

Unfortunately, I was expecting the best movie of the year, because of all the grand reviews. Instead, I got a somewhat depressing movie that would have been better relegated to my Netflix queue a few months down the road. There was some terrific acting, but I didn't buy the lead character's sudden revelation that his life was for naught. I also didn't buy the little shocker he gets from his "girlfriend." She would not have been so endearing, if that's who (or what) she really was. But as they say, it's just a movie. If you're not expecting too much, you will enjoy it. And you'll get some tips on how to pack your travel bag.

I really liked this movie. As a "Road Warrior" who is on airplanes monthly, I could identify with the lifestyle. And the topic of job loss was so relevant to today's economic crisis. It put a real personal touch to a very non personal way of down sizing a company. The acting was great and the Golden Globe nominations are "right on" See the movie........you won't be sorry.

I had bought the hype: smart, funny, in touch with the times, and I was disappointed on all counts. This is a dull movie, that Clooney sleepwalks through. His voice is low and mumbly and he projects a very low energy level. The countless shots of people reacting to getting fired never seem very real. The movie feels very fabricated. It attempts to portray a journey of a man from self-absorbed isolationist to someone who values family and human contact; but this is portrayed very unconvincingly--Clooney's family in Northern Wisconsin are wooden and two-dimensional. One gets the feeling critics were paid off to rave about this dud.

There was so much hype about this movie that I guess I was bound to be disappointed. I found it slow at the beginning and though the actors were excellent, I did think the characters were bordering on cartoonish at times (especially the assistant)--although maybe that was the intention. And yes, this movie is super depressing on many levels. It is basically confirmation that it's not worth making yourself vulnerable to another person because you will inevitabley get hurt. The leads are funny and beautiful but the movie left me feeling empty, not engaged emotionally or intellectually.

The movie was fun to watch as the interactions between characters is charming. Interspersed between the light moments are very heavy ones dealing with the nature of Bingham's work and relationships. I was not prepared for the tone in which the movie ended, but by no means is the ending bad.

George Clooney and Vera Farmiga were very engaging. Given the fact that the film was completed before the recession, the imitation of life in art is truly amazing. I did not expect the the surprise in the film one bit! Although I enjoyed the movie and loved the ending, I found the movie to be a little slow moving and the dialogue somewhat repetitive in the scenes with the employees. George Clooney draws you into his character superbly. Definitely see it!

May be Clooney's best role and acting performance ever! Vera Farmiga & Anna Kendrick are every bit as good as Clooney! A movie that makes you think, makes you laugh & makes you sad ..... all at the same time. I loved every minute of "Up In The Air" from the opening titles to the very last note at the end of the movie. This film is the updated version of a 50's war movie - the one where the hero fights the war, is one of the best at what he does, romances women with his confidence & manner, finds his humanity, falls in love only to discover "his girl" got married while he was away "in battle". In the end he knows he is what he is ... a warrior .... and a darn good one to boot!

I liked the movie, but having worked in corporate America for 30+ years, it was not news to me. My husband is a teacher and was shocked. Not me. Not shocked about any part of it.---- I liked the acting. I liked the timeliness of the movie. I was not prepared for the focus on only the down size of being let go. There are some people that are thrilled to get those packages -Myself being one of them, at one time. I would have preferred the movie to show more sides of the experience, not just the down sides.--- I know some people that have been let go via email, so a Skype exit interview does not really seem that cold compared to an email.

Script is good for about 3/4 of the movie, but the premise is off --- whoever wrote this movie has never been fired from a long-term job. In real life, the consequences of George Clooney's actions are much different, more interesting, funnier and darker than these inexperienced script-writers can imagine. Rent this one. I liked the views of "fly-over" country, landscape and airports.

A totally engaging movie. Loved the premise of a woman wearing the shoes in a relationship and being the one who was the cheating spouse (although this was predictable).
Sparkling dialogue, good B story with the female sidekick for Clooney's character.
The only thing missing would have been for George's sidekick to have been the one who ended up firing him; rather than running off to another job.
It would have served the adage "What goes 'round comes 'round much better."
That said, I was not expecting such a good movie going in. Was extremely happy that I was wrong.

I really enjoyed Juno, also directed by Reitman, and was very much looking forward to seeing this movie. At most, it was mildly diverting despite very good performances by Clooney, Farmiga and Kendrick. I would counsel other movie goers to wait for the DVD.

Up In The Air was a breath of fresh air because it is smart, well-crafted, well-acted and poignant too. There were times I was cracking up laughing and times when I almost cried relating to the many people in the film who were being laid off or fired from their jobs. I was laid off from my job in January 2008 and still haven't found a comparable job to what I was doing. Times are tough and this movie couldn't be more timely. Grade: A.
