I can't believe all the negative comments from some people about this movie. SPLICE is a perfect companion to THE FLY by David Cronenberg. It's obvious to me that's where Vincenzo Natali, SPLICE's director, got some of his inspiration for this film.
It's a fable, a tale. Of course it's over the top and ridiculous. But is it that far off from reality? It's science fiction and it pushes buttons some people don't like being pushed. For me, it was fun, daring, but never boring.
I enjoyed it very much for what it was.... smart entertainment for SCI FI horror fans. It's a thinking person's horror film. That's it. It's not SPECIES. Thank God!!
I'll probably own it on DVD when it gets released.
Just try to open your mind and have fun with it. I sure did!
Up In The Air was a breath of fresh air because it is smart, well-crafted, well-acted and poignant too. There were times I was cracking up laughing and times when I almost cried relating to the many people in the film who were being laid off or fired from their jobs. I was laid off from my job in January 2008 and still haven't found a comparable job to what I was doing. Times are tough and this movie couldn't be more timely. Grade: A.
This was a riveting, harrowing and gritty twist on an alien invasion that strangely mimics how the human race would react if there really was an alien visitation such as the one depicted here. I like how the movie expects the audience to figure some things out on their own. It's a thinking persons sci fi film. My favorite kind.
have seen all the critically acclaimed movies for 2008. There were some very good movies to be sure. Many of them were good except that the plots were in some way contrived or unrealistic.
The Wrestler doesn't suffer in this way. It is very realistic and extremely well acted. It might be considered a "dude flick" but I don't care. It's just so award-worthy. It deserves to win for best picture.
No matter what you might think about Mickey Rourke, he gives one hell of a good performance here and deserves gold. Marisa Tomei was also extraordinary as well as Evan Rachel Wood.
