Right off, I must say that the two female leads - Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick eclipse George Clooney in nearly every scene. The story line is an interesting one, and Clooney's love interest *who we are lead to believe makes him want more out of life than airline miles* - turns out to actually have a life .... perhaps one that Clooney's character is destined to never know. More interesting is our flier's line of work; an HR arena that surely contributes to his emotional self-exile. Sad. Poigniant.

don't get duped by the rave reviews expecting a thoughtful movie.. the movie's plot: is insipid and thin..... self absorbed guy flys around the country firing pathetic downsized people while his goal in life is collecting frequent flyer miles. In between he has a fling with a free spirited married women and spars with a young corporate tiger (who pulls off a good role) and is the only solid character. The film is visually boring and and low budget...Clooney is on camera about 95% of the time and that's about the only thing worth watching...maybe it's worht a $1 from Red Box..not the $18 we paid.

I've seen better movies on free TV. I didn't particularly think it was sad, nor funny, nor insightful or anything. It just was a day in the life of a traveling salesman...very boring. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never really got going. Hollywood needs to get the message. They've milked the Hollywood cow dry. Time for new stock. Almost everyone has a story, some of us two or three. But, Hollywood is a very closed circle and they keep their own in the inner circle and never give new blood an opportunity to really tell a story.

I see and hear the message that is being delivered, I have been in a very similar situation. I see the uncomfortable moments, yet no emotion from the deliverer of the message. That is all I got from the movie which took part in the first 1/2 hour of the movie.. George Clooney I felt was not right for this part in fact, I'm not sure who would be good for this part. The movie dragged on, acting was poor, and I could not wait for it to end. I sure hope this does not get an award.

Up In The Air is not a bad movie, but is over-hyped and ultimately a disappointment.
The problem stems from director Jason Reitman's desire for relevance: the script kicked around for years with a different story, with the job-loss angle grafted on late in the game... and it shows. "Up In The Air" checks off the comedy and pathos boxes but lacks a coherent theme to keep the viewer engaged.
A decent rental, but as a $10/ticket Christmas blockbuster this one simply does not cut it.

Sorry, George. Love you. Hate the script. A 50 minute first act, no character arc for our hero. Vera Farmiga as Clooney's love interest and Anna Kendrick have great qualities. But if you are discerning enough to spot a lame script then this picture is not for you. You'll find yourself thinking "this movie is really long" only find out you've been in the theatre for only an hour. Entirely unsatisfying and a waste of acting talent and $8.50 - put Jason Reitman on your list of director who should not be allowed to write.

Excellent film. Superb acting by entire cast. Sad, funny, depressing, poignant, harshly realistic. Hits the highs and lows of the human condition with perfect accuracy. George Clooney's acting is magnificent, that coupled with an equally great performance from Vera Farmiga and incredible chemistry between the two made it a shared vehicle for both stars. Started to get concerned of it turning into "oh no, another "feel good movie"" but plot twists quickly changed that. Not quite clear on the very end. My friends and I disagree on what it leaves us with. Did Clooney's character dive right back into work, or did he use his "miles" to go away ? I lean to the former, life goes on, unchanged for at least one character

Excellent acting by George Clooney, the actress who played Natalie and Jason Bateman. Very timely plot in this time of recession and layoffs. Plot dragged slightly in spots but had many high points. Up in Air is a good movie but a little depressing.. but that's the nature of the story. Good lessons through the movie about the importance of connections - human not airline. Enjoyed the scenes of my hometown.

Its about time Hollywood came out with a movie with adult thinking themes. This Clooney film gives him a great format to show his acting (and does it well) and the supporting cast does the same with fine results. Wit and humor in all the right places and it will leave you with something to think about. Substance is the main point here. Not for the "Snookie" generation, they'll never get it....but over 35 crowd will relate and enjoy. Four and a half stars!

With all the buzz about Best movie, Best actor, I was disappointed with Up in the Air. It was not riveting, not what I expected. I guess it was sort of a psychological study of a lonely man. Clooney might have played himself. I would recommend renting it on DVD because you won't miss any gorgeous filming or scenery. The entire movie was gray clouds, bleak weather, no color. I give it a 3 out of 5
