I’ve been waiting for a long time to see a good, character-driven film. ‘Hope Springs’ is just that. Anyone who says it’s not a good movie is probably an insensitive, unemotional male, Neanderthal lacking any kind of poignant quality. I was a little concerned that Steve Carell, being more of a comedic actor, couldn’t pull off a serious role, but he did well except for those ugly clod hopper shoes he was wearing. And, of course Meryl Streep is her usual fabulous self as well as Tommy Lee Jones. It made me laugh and pulled at my heart strings as well. Feel good movie. We need more movies like this. They had a Moen faucet like mine, love it.
Not a great movie, but okay. There were a lot of worn out one liners. the story was slow moving, predictable. worth watching on tv, not worth the price of admission. good acting. The most amazing thing is all of the 'adults' in the theater that are starved for good movies without all of the violence, sex and gore of most movies today. There is a group for movies like this. We need more character-driven films. Hollywood seems to be making movies for 16 yo boys or animations for kids. Where are the movies for us adults that just want to see a good movie with a story?
Pros great actors, good sets, good camera work, nice lighting
Lucky One was a very good, predictable story. Very enjoyable and engaging. It kept my interest and the sets and lighting bathed my eys in serenity. I LOVED the locations and the lighting was fabulous! I'd like to be able to light a scene like that. probably the most outstanding part of the film. There were a few things that bothered me. Probably the most distracting thing was the Cop's name pin wasn't in the proper location. Blythe's white nail polish was distracting on CU. Should have used clear like Zac. Zac is nice to look at but he didn't deliver a lot of his lines very convincingly. Blythe did an outstanding job as did the little boy acting as her son. Overall, very good film. Definitley worth watching.
It wasn't a bad movie, the end was cute. But, OMG, the lack of continuity drove me nuts. They had a kid play the young Moe who had striking blue eyes and the adult Moe had brown eyes. One or the other should have worn contacts. the orphanage Africian American kid who sang had braces on! I don't know of any kid in an orphange who has braces. And, there was a girl with every hair in place that didn't look homeless. When the little girl who was sick was given cheese, the platter was on her lap, then the table, then back on her lap...ugh! And, when they were putting onions on the guy in the cast, next thing it's not there. You get the idea. A Hollywood type of show should have better continuity. I did like the explanation at the end for kids not to do the stunts at home. All in all a little disappointed. But, not too bad.
I went to this movie wanting to enjoy it but rude kids behind me prevented it. So, the moive left me kind of flat. However, I did notice the wardrobe team made a continuity problem. They had one type of ear ring on her on the indoor scene and a different ear ring on the outdoor scene. Shame on them for not doing their job properly.
It started out a little slow. But, once it got going it was very powerful and engaging. Predictable, but well worth watching. The only problem was there must have been pollen in the air because everyone around me seemed to have the sniffles. Then, I too, got the sniffles. It must have been something contagious. Then, there had to have been a hole in the roof as I found water running down my cheeks. How did that happen? That's my story and I'm sticking to it...lol Go see it if you like character-driven stories.
There were some slow parts at the beginning and probably some stuff that could have been cut. But, all in all it was a feel good movie and enjoyable. Nice change from shoot em ups. I loved the interaction between Dolly and Queen. The cafe fight was hysterical. The voices of all of the singers were fabulous. Not necessarily my pick of songs but not bad. Some real life drama. I would have loved to have heard Dolly sing 'Coat of Many Colors.' Many people clapped at the end. The only irritaing part was the woman behind me who kept tapping her foot to the music. It wouldn't have been too bad except she didn't have any rhythm...lol
Very good movie. There was one little continuity slip that bothered me when the little girl (adorable) made PB&J sandwiches and put them in a bag. Then, the CU showed the sandwiches out of the bag as she wrote on the bags. The big fight between the father and son was raw emotion and they did a great job. the little girl reminded me of Drew Barrymore in ET, the same angelic face and pouty lips. definitely a movie worth seeing.
Mr. Kendrick must have had all the extras in the movie write all of these glowing remarks. But, don't be fooled. It's all hype and marketing. There were a few touching moments and a couple of chuckles. But, all in all not worthy of a 2 hour + film. The characers weren't fully deveoloped nor was the storyline. The plots were scattered and undeveloped. the lighting was good and the sound for the most part. Tripods were invented for a reason...use them. The motion was distracting. It's not to say the concept wasn't good. But, if I want to be preached to I'll go to church. The actors were subpar at best for the most part. Very diappointed. unless you are a bible thumper, dont' waste your time.
Snooze fest. I like baseball and like baseball movies. And, I know this was based on a true story, but the writer could have developed the characters better and made a storyline from it. I was so bored I even noticed little things like the fact that the girl playing Brad’s daughter played the guitar with her right hand and ate ice cream with her left hand…ugh! I kept waiting for something to happen. The acting was horrible except for Brad and the little girl. At times there seemed there wasn’t even a script. I know Brad Pitt resembles Robert Redford in looks, but this was no ‘The Natural’ which was a great baseball movie. Very disappointed. Don’t waste your money.
