I have seen all of the movies and was a fan of all of the TV shows except for DS9.
This movie gives you a great insight into the history of the characters. The movie stayed true to the heritage of the original series in many aspects.
The Star Trek purist might have some issues with the "changes" to the space-time continuium. Putting that aside, this movie was high paced, with lots of great action. It told a great story that lends itself to be continued in additional movies. This movie will make the hard core Trek fans talk about the possibilities for the future.

my girlfriend, an almost anti-sci-fi moviegoer, was NOT looking forward to this one, but went for my benefit and was surprised when she really liked this movie. having watched the original helped with the more subtle aspects of the film, but not necessary to enjoy it fully! must agree with others re: imax; definately not worth the extra$$.

I enjoy all the different Star Trek variations. I went in to this with cautious optimism as some Trek movies were less than good in the past. Hold on to your seats for a wild ride! This is non stop action! A GREAT storyline that is true to the series. This is by far, the best Star Trek yet! An absolute must see movie event! I never considered myself a Star Trek fan at all so I am sure I missed out on a lot of the "inside" stuff. I also did not have a close connection with any of the characters so whenever they were introduced in the movie I wasn't sure who they were. However, this movie does a great job of making you fall in love with each crew member. I gotta say I was on the edge of my seat and thought the movie was pretty fantastic.

I had a headache halfway through. Camera effects and visuals were used to replace acting skills and I felt that these people just didn't want to be together. The IMAX screen made the effects impressive but shaking the camera while someone sat in a chair made me nauseous. The plot reminded me of the last film, the cast all wanted to be captain, Kirk got control of the flag ship by fighting with every member of the cast (note to villain), and the engine room looked like a brewery? This was a commercial filled with product plugs (for shame) and pop-culture references aimed at getting my dollar. Pretend it is some high school cast presenting a summary of the entire franchise with flashy lights and sounds to get through this.

I am not a Trekkie, But I am a HUGE sci-fi fan. I thought that the movie started off really slow. The first 20 min bored me and my daughter. Then the movie finally got exciting. I was impressed with the way that they tied in the new timeline with the old. The characters were very convincing as young versions of the original Star Trek characters, even though I had a hard time with young Spock I kept wanting to shout out "Look! It's Sylar" from "Heroes". I would definitely suggest this movie to all sci fi fans. It is one of the best stories I have seen on film in a long time.

This, despite being chock full of action and adventure is one of the best "feel-good" movies I've ever seen. I left the movie with a big grin and giggle and definitely wanting more. I liked the original Star Trek movies and TV shows, I LOVED this one. Outstanding special effects, even some puposely cheesy moments reminiscent of the original Shatner/Nimoy adventures. Great job! An overall two-thumbs up.

Excellent reimagining of the original series characters without the feeling of a retread. Opens up the series for a new generation of stories based upon the Star Trek characters many of us grew up with. If you liked the original series (TOS), you'll like seeing how the gang got together.
The sparks between Spock and Uhura were a nice treat as we see how Spock wrestled with his human side.
The effects were awesome. Don't go looking for the campy bridge or shaking set of TOS. This is real 21st century technology applied to the beginning of the story.
Definitely go for the IMAX experience if it's available to you.

Skeptical is how I felt when I heard that J.J. Abrams was stepping into the Trek Business. While I like his work on "Cloverfield" and "Alias," I was also dubious of his work in an existing franchise "Mission Impossible 3." Finally, after the long wait and the dud that was the (last Next Generation) 10th Trek film (which broke the "Odd Movie Trek Films are the Good Ones" pattern), we have the reboot. The film itself is beautiful. It requires an IMAX to appreciate, but even then the scenes move so quickly you feel an urge to see it again to catch the little Easter eggs that film makers left for the Trek fans of the previous years. Highly recommended.

I'm not at all a Trekkie. My friend is. However, it was me who dragged her to this movie, and it was my friend who was reluctant to go, fearing that it would be too 'different'.
We were both blown away, as was her 9 year old daughter. The movie was amazing. Thrilling, with enough humor and plenty of inside jokes to entertain both Trekkie and non-Trekkie alike. I'd see this again and again, if I had the money to do so! It makes Sci-Fi seem like reality!

My first IMAX movie viewing experience!! I LOVED IT!! STAR TREK was fabulous - excellent acting (original but with just enough authenticity), stunning visual effects, classic dry humor, and perfectly paced!! Definitely the first must-see movie of this Summer!!

It had a lot of great effects and action but I felt the storyline was a bit weak and confusing. I loved seeing Leonard Nimoy (the REAL Spock) so that helped me enjoy the movie a little more.
