my girlfriend, an almost anti-sci-fi moviegoer, was NOT looking forward to this one, but went for my benefit and was surprised when she really liked this movie. having watched the original helped with the more subtle aspects of the film, but not necessary to enjoy it fully! must agree with others re: imax; definately not worth the extra$$.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
