As a long-time Star Trek fan, I was very skeptical about going in the direction of a prequel, and about having new actors take on the Kirk, Spock, McCoy roles, but I was extremely pleased with the results. J.J. Abrams and his writers did an excellent job blending the Trek history with the new story and charting a new course for the Star Trek franchise.
The combination of action, storyline and spectacular special effects makes this a movie anyone can enjoy whether they've ever even heard of Star Trek before or not.
I can't remember the last time I saw a movie twice in the theater, but I just might go watch this one again. It's that good.

I really wasn't expecting a lot after the last several Star Trek movies. I'd grown up with the original series and it seemed like they were trying to milk a bunch of geezers. However, I'm a fan of Zachary Quinto, so I thought I'd give it a try.
Not only was the cgi well-integrated and in keeping with the story, what a story! Amazing series of plot twists.They've made the whole story fresh again. It wasn't overwhelmed with battle scenes. They remembered to keep the story balanced.
I'm looking forward to the next installment. IMAX was well worth the additional charge for this movie!

The movie does re-invent the franchise. I expect other movies in the future. The characters were well thought out and picked. Almost all of them could be a younger version of the original characters. What I liked about the movie is that it give depth to the actual size of the Enterprise. Well done: and of course there was IMax. Wonderful clarity and sound. Great experience.

I went in skeptical, yet hopeful. I watched for the reviews when they came out, I listened to what others thought, and crossed my fingers for the best.

The movie was great! The theater Columbia 14 IMAX in maryland sucked it was a bate and switch, there was no IMAX experience it was the same screen as other theaters in the area, I watched the movie on opening night at a theater that had a DLP projector for $9, I was told that I should see the IMAX version I did on Sunday for $14 +$1.50 from movie tickets online, and it was the exact look and feel, I have the ticket stub for proof. I wish I could get my money back or at least have the theater reclassified as NOT an IMAX THEATER

Been a Star Trek fan before it was a fad, and never would have thought that new actors could pull off the old characters in a believable way. But this movie was awesome. Even for a non-Treky this was a great movie, but for a Treky I count this as possibly the best movie I have ever seen. I thought we had seen the last of the Trek movies, but clearly not.

I would give this movie the highest rating. I am a trekkie who had doubts about being able to accept new actors playing very familiar roles. My concerns were not warranted. The new Spock was wonderful and added dimensions to the character not seen before. The younger McCoy reminded me of the original in his humor and wit. And Kirk was absolutely great.
As the filmed moved on, the special effects were stunning and very well crafted. The overall film allowed me to escape to a kinder, and better world for 2 hours. I left remembering why I have liked that show so much over the years.

I went to this movie with my wife at an IMAX theatre and we ended up sitting in the front row which sucked. There should not even be any seats this close because all the action scenes were a blur. If you go to IMAX get there early!! The movie was good though and I would recommend it to anyone who is or is not a Trekker.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan, but I have fond memories of watching reruns of the original series as a kid as well as the big screen movies with the original cast.
This movie was awesome! It distilled everything that was great about that original series, and gave it back to you with a few new twists. A perfect balance of character, action, humor, and drama.

I thought that this movie really delivered to die hard fans and non-fans alike. A very clever script and impressive visuals. The acting across the board was also excellent. I went into this movie expecting great things, but wow, I didn't expect it to be as amazing as it was. I am a big fan of Abrams's other work and he did not disappoint.
The cast (especially Bones) is spot on, while adding their own spins on the characters. The story is great and the film, quite literally, never lets up.
This is a great service to fans of the shows and old films, yet it is completely accessible to newcomers (even friends who "hate sci-fi").

I had high hopes but low expectations for the latest "Star Trek: film. It's a reboot of a franchise that had grown long in the tooth and it was replacing the iconic original cast with new actors. No way could it work. Boy, was I wrong! J.J. Abrams and his writers (Roddenberry credited - a nice touch) nailed it for Trekkies and newcomers alike. Why only four stars? The new Trek is exciting. They manage to work in all of the stuff you'd expect from a Star Trek movie, all the signature sayings, etc. The special effects are amazing, but not overwhelming to where they overpower the actual story and the acting. All of the young actors are really refreshing. I can say that after a string of disappointing sequels and prequels (the new Star Wars movies, the last Indiana Jones movie, 007 that resembles Jason Bourne more than James Bond), this is the first "reboot"/sequel that did not utterly disappoint me. If you get a chance, see it on IMAX. The extra screen space makes you feel enveloped in the movie. What an awesome movie going experience. I actually want to go back to the IMAX to see it again!

I thoroughly loved this film, so much I would go back again. Pine, Quinto, et al. have their characters down without overly invoking their original counterparts. The effects were amazing and the story had only a few holes in it, but I was so enjoying the movie that I didn't think about them until much later. Even then they weren't a huge problem. Definitely check this film out.

Star Trek was much better than expected. Lots of inside jokes for fans of the original. Iit was well written. The actors were great. The only complaint I have is that Kirk does not have blue eyes. Sorry but it was really easy to notice especially on the IMAX screen.
