As a life-long trekkie, I could not be happier! This cast just nails each character with enough of the mannerisms, moves and lines to pull in those of us who remember the original series, but hold their own enough to grab a whole new audience. The fact that the plot line is now wide open is exciting! And the special effects were, naturally, top-notch. Even if you have not been a fan - this movie is for you. It has it all - plotline, action, and yummy captain kirk.

Well, I must concur with all the other rave reviews. It is a breath of fresh air in the Star Trek universe. It brings Star Trek to a whole new audience. As an old school Trekker (but one with a life) I was at first doubtful but curious. I must say the filmmakers did a beautiful job of reconciling and "melding" this timeline with the original. The cast and acting were superb, and the story well crafted. I do agree with the others - you must see it at least once in a real IMAX theater. Go to a midnight show if need be - you won't be disappointed. It's the best film I've seen in a long time. Seeing it is the logical thing to do.

I was so worried about how the moviemakers were gonna treat this movie. But I was really happily overwhemed. My beloved Star Trek crew were treated with the respect that all old Trekkies believe they deserved. They remained our heroes when so many movies are coming out and making our heroes into "dark" flawed individuals. The updated graphics and technology used to provide the special effects will really make old trekkies stand up and cheer, The NEW Trekkies will grow to love the new "Kick-butt" Captain Kirk . I loved the actors recreation of the new heros, except they made Uhura's using her feminine wiles on Spock to get her position. That sucked.

You know how sometimes you leave a theater thinking that the film you watched was pretty good but _____ was lame, whether it be the plot, acting, writing, pacing. I left Star Trek completely satisfied. I could find no fault with the film. For a 2+ hour moving, it never felt long. The pacing was perfect. The writing was smart and the characters well developed. The actors did a tremendous job of being true to the characters without slavishly aping the mannerisms of the original actors. The action sequences were exhilarating, and the digital effects breathtaking.
This is easily the best Star Trek movie ever, and the best movie in general that I've seen in a long time.

This movie is amazing, it has something for everyone. My 8yr old who knew nothing about the t.v. show loved it. The new IMAX in Woodland Hills is perfect for this movie. There are wonderful little shout outs to fans of the t.v. show along with very cool casting gems. Tyler Perry, who knew? Ben Cross, wow that's high brow. I am not the sci-fi geek but this movie rocks on so many levels, the effects are totally impressive while the story is still quite character driven.

For me this was a Great movie on several levels. I used to watch the original and honestly kirk and the green lady was just funny! Along with him somehow yet again getting stuck on a frozen tundra and of course getting chased by wild beasts. That along with his as normal no finesse fighting style. The IMAX at Columbia was weak, but the HD and digital sound made for a great movie showing. The movie is awesome!!! Lots of cameos, former Trek stars, SG Atlantis stars, super props and technology, and Karl Urban did THE BEST "Bones", he was AWESOME, totally got the character down and the use of the previous lines from Star Trek - TOS , awesome!!, he should be nominated for an Oscar for that performance. The movie leaves real Trek-ers with some bad tastes in their mouths for the differences, but they have to remember, Nero altered the time-line... he changed the past Star Trek reality. THIS WAS BRILLIANT, now Paramount can bring back William Shatner in a cameo or a star in a sequel to "right" the time-line or anything. I loved it!!

The sleeping giant of Star Trek has been awakened! Great cast, awesome special effects, and wonderful story has me on the edge of my seat awaiting the sequel. As a die hard TOS fan I was skeptical and uncertain. But I must tell everyone it is a wonderful addition to the franchise and will enable more Trek to come with wonderful new adventures. Seeing it in New York at the Empire 25 IMAX was incredible! I was with a party of 10 trekkers getting ready to embark on the newest cruise, not a one of us had a bad thing to say. The story line filled in the gaps to lead us down this new path, kudos to the writing team. A very pleasant change for the better. J.J. did a spot on job right down to the music. I hope the entire cast and team of writers and crew will be on board for the next film.

This installment of the ongoing mission is a superb sci-fi film. Great script, very nice set design, brilliant special effects, very (very) well cast, and beautifully executed. Purist shouldn't be disappointed and non-Trek fans can enjoy this film without knowing much about the franchise. The Star Trek prequel was handled beautifully and true to the known lore of Star Trek history. That being said, after seeing the film you'll know why the marketing campaign tells you to "forget everything you know." This film deserves the big screen. See it in IMAX if you can (but sit in the back row and buckle up).

The movie was great fun, it kept me on the edge of my seat, and if you think this is the sort of thing you *might* like, then rest assured that you *will.*
Now for the quibbles:
1. The plot was tortuous, in part because it used time-travel paradoxes to free the Trek franchise of accumulated baggage--a good thing, but still.
2. At stake was the survival of the Earth, but these seafaring yarns do best when the lone captain must confront a challenge that's big compared to him but rather small compared to his country and its navy.
3. The Vulcans seemed too human--a shame, because their alien nature is their chief attraction.
