Robert Downey Jr... his evolution into a leading man continues to shine with Sherlock Holmes. Downey gives a face and a passion to the role of Holmes seamlessly. The writing is brilliant, and acted equally so. Jude Law also puts on a great performance.
If you're looking for an intelligent, exciting, rich movie, this is one to see.
Hats off to you, Mr. Holmes.

Entertaining but ultimately forgettable. Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. are a good combination for a buddy-cop picture. But as a long-time Doyle fan, it's hard to sympathize with the portrayal of Sherlock Holmes as a martial arts action figure. The resemblance to the original Doyle character is superficial at best. The lead in this movie could have been named almost anything (Ironman of Baker Street, perhaps?).

Maybe it was just me, but I didn't get it, and didn't like it. It was dark, loud, and full of computer graphics more appropriate for a Batman movie than a murder mystery set in the 1800's. Over acted, long and violent. Robert Downey Jr. played Sherlock as a twisted, angry, depressed man, desperately in need of an intervention. Hmmmm. Go rent Indiana Jones and stay home.

Our entire family enjoyed the movie. Plenty of fast paced action and adventure to keep the 15 year old attention. Interesting dialogue and an actual plot to follow for my husband and I to enjoy. With the touch of romance, our 12 yr old never text once during the film.
We all had a very good time.

Visually engaging and fast paced movie. With minor exceptions, even though this is a completely new story, it is quite faithful to the original Arthur Conan Doyle characters. (This Watson is much more self-assured and assertive than usual and both Holmes and Watson's clothing and facial stubble are decidedly not consistent with the refined Victorian gentlemen that Doyle created.) However, viewers familiar with SH stories will recognize (and enjoy) many references that give the movie a sense of authenticity. Downey, Law & Strong are all great in these roles.

Extremely slow and boring. Some moments of brevity to keep you laughing but absolutely did not stay true to Sherlock Holmes' style. The only saving grace of this movie was Robert Downey Jr.

It's tough to "reboot" iconic characters such as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, but this movie has done it with style and substance. Holmes as written by Doyle had as much physical prowess as Robert Downey Jr. demonstrated in this movie. And Jude Law's Dr. Watson is absolutely perfect; not one sour note, even to getting Watson's limp from his war wound. The writing and pacing are excellent, but I agree with another reviewer: Better sound editing is needed for American ears.

Director Guy Ritchie sets in motion a new dynamic portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, Sherlock Holmes and his side-kick Dr Watson. They both find themselves having to display some really dynamic fighting skills to battle and stop a vicious plot to over take the UK and then the world.
I found this installment of "Sherlock Holmes" a bit dark, but none the less it's an interesting story. The movie starts off a bit slow, but definitely picks up steam and continues to the end. Robert Downey Jr. shows the extend of his range. he does an excellent job of portraying Sherlock Holmes. The movie is action-packed and full of interesting special effects.

Robert Downey continues to prove that he can be the best. This was a great medium for him and it's an interesting take on Connon Doyle's Holmes. Lots of interesting sub storylines mixed in. I loved it. I'm looking forward to IronMan 2.

Entertaining, but not really a "WOW" show for some reason. Too much hype, maybe? Still, I'd recommend it to friends. Some great action scenes. Downey/Law combo pretty good.
Minor point: Have slight hearing problem, so combination of speed of speech/accents made it a little difficult to catch all that was said.
Saw "It's Complicated" first, telling friends I enjoyed it more than SH.

Liked the atmospher created by the set design of movie. Was thankful for slow motion review by holmes character to help my brain take in some of the extremely fast action. Decent story line and very good performance by the three main actors.

I enjoyed the performances of the 2 leads, Downey, Jr. and Law, but they really didn't have much to work with. The story was not really compelling and the only interesting touch was a very dark & dirty retro-London. Also, if you were not already familiar with Sherlock Holmes & Watson (and Gen X don't know the story) you would miss out on the backstory...i.e. Holmes was an opium addict. Instead the story was too formulaic. And of course, they have set it up for a sequel, by introducting Holmes' nemesis, Moriarity. Also, absolutely no need for for the contrived female in distress/criminal.

This movie is fast paced, well acted, well directed, and beautifully filmed. The action was exciting, esp. the device of setting up fight scenes as Holmes' did by walking through it step by step. RD, Jr. and Jude Law do great jobs creating enjoyable, interesting characters from two iconic templates that could be clichéd but aren't. Downey develops a fascinating Holmes, making his intellect and charm readily apparent, as well as his idiosyncrasies humorous and touching at the same time. Law plays a wonderful counterpoint, which I'm SO glad isn't handled as most other depictions of Watson as a bumbling oaf. The writers develop strong antagonists, still keeping the elusive Moriarty in the shadows. It makes a good foundation for a great sequel.

I enjoyed everything about this movie except for Rachel McAdams. No offense but she is not the greatest actress and when put beside Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law she pales. Even Law was a little weak in this role. The cinematography was beautiful.

OMG! Do not listen to the negative reviews. I believe this is the best movie I have seen in a long-long time. It is fast paced, funny, and energizing. Definately a MUST SEE!!! Robert Downey Jr. did a fantastic job at being Holmes.
