It's the first time that my 14 year old son didn't move an inch during a movie - In fact, he told me to be quiet when I told him how cool the movie was.
Avatar has lived up to the hype. It truly is the first of it's kind, taking special effects and blending them with live actors in a 3d virtual world.
If you're planning on seeing Avatar, make sure you see it in 3D. Imax 3d if possible. It's been a long time since I considered seeing a movie in the theaters more than once. Avatar is a definite 2nd visit!
Robert Downey Jr... his evolution into a leading man continues to shine with Sherlock Holmes. Downey gives a face and a passion to the role of Holmes seamlessly. The writing is brilliant, and acted equally so. Jude Law also puts on a great performance.
If you're looking for an intelligent, exciting, rich movie, this is one to see.
If you know the Mummy series, parts 1 & 2 focus on Rick (Brendan Fraser) and Evy (Evelyn - Rachel Weisz), along with her brother, Jonathan and several really well-cast characters. For M 1&2, there is a genuine feel of intrigue and adventure, but on Mummy 3, the story is, well, weak.
Still, if you want a fun movie to see with the kids, this is a good summer time filler... solid special effects make up for much of the needed effort. Evelyn (Weisz) was replaced by a new actress, Maria Bello. Bello was all right, but the movie would have been muh better with Weisz as Evy.
Bottom line, take the kids, get some popcorn and enjoy. It's a summer movie, pure and simple.
I'm a Mike Myers fan... and will be , even after this latest attempt at bathroom humor gone bad. The funniest single thing in this movie happened during the end credits... so if you're willing to spend your money and sit though an hour and a half of some of the worst movie crap I've seen, the 10 seconds on the closing credits are funny. But NOT worth the money...
