A classic Holmes Story. More tension between Holmes and Watson noot like the book or old version but if you enjoy A. Conan Doyles stories this will be your cup of tea plotwise. Warning - A bit more violent than the classic stories.

Overall I enjoyed the movie....I think Downey and Law brought energy and interest to their characters. The special effects were remarkable and the imagery of long ago London was captivating. I do think the film would have benefited from better editing. There were a lot of story lines to the movie but none of them was really explored in great enough depth to make them as intriguing as they could have been. It was a long movie that I think could have taken away some of the "dead time" and reinvested it in character and relationship development to greater advantage. Don't get me wrong, though, it was a fun and entertaining movie.

Interesting how the movie showed Sherlock Holme's mind working. Like you were in his head. Nice acting by Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. They looked like they enjoyed making the movie. I had trouble hearing the beginning. The words were slurred or too fast, something was off. OVerall, very enjoyable.

Overall an enterainting event. Puts all today's scientific reasearchers to shame. what we do now with our techknowlogies Homes does with shere determination and careful examination. Characters were played wonderfully by all. Good Movie to watch!

Seeing previews and being a long time fan of Holmes and Watson, my first thought was they casting should have been reversed and that they were going to ruin the very name of Sherlock Holmes. That said, I enjoyed the movie very much. I was very pleasantly surprised with Downey's understated portrayal as well as the obvious affection Holmes and Watson had for one another. I was also impressed with the romantic side of Holmes which was also largely understated. All in all, I liked very much the interpretation of the characters.

The theater was packed and I thought about a refund but the wife insisted... Robert Downy Jr...need I say more. Anyway I had to sit on the front row, in the worst seat I have ever had. None the less, once the movie started I was engaged the entire time. I really enjoyed the "intelligence" of the movie, the humor seemed genuine and not forced. The characters are easy to like and the bad guy is easy to hate...does that make sense? Anyway I was pleasantly surprised this was not a "cheesy" movie and was very well done. Go see it!

Despite good performances from Law, Downey and Strong, this is a mediocre, superficial movie that turns Sherlock Holmes into Jackie Chan light.
Spielberg's "Young Sherlock Holmes" was much, much better.

We loved this movie - being real fans of Sherlock Holmes in general - we found it to be visually stunning, well casted and acted, and well written. Of course, I am a sucker for Robert Downey Junior, who in my mind is one of the best actors of our generation. And he did not disappoint. Jude Law makes classy Watson. While it is a departure from the classic Holmes stories and tradition, I didn't want it to end. The final scene will take your breath away. Enjoy!

The banter between Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law is what made it through the somewhat slow points of the movie. Nice plot twists and turns, and as usual, Robert Downey, Jr's perfermance was outstanding (and I can't say I'm a huge fan, but I do see his talent).
Overall, very entertaining and a easy to watch. Was initially worried about the overtone of magic, but was a great conversation starter when it was over. My son was the one that said "glad they cleared that up!".
Would I see it again, yes, at a Redbox rental, but probably not at $9

I grew up reading the Sherlock Holmes novels and watching the old movies. When I saw the previews for this movie, I thought they were going to ruin the character. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. I felt like they did a pretty good job with the character, maybe dwelling a little too much on some areas. But I enjoyed it.

Maybe it was too late, maybe a light was out on the projector, but both my husband I took turns falling asleep in a very dark theater with an even darker screen at Sherlock Holmes. While I can be a film napper, my husband NEVER is, and I had to wake him up several times after I woke up. We both thought it was hard to follow the plot...and was certainly more action then clever script. We were very disappointed.

Entertaining and exciting, mainly due to the excellent performances of Downey and Law, and the beautiful cinematic recreation of Victorian London. Sets, cinematography and costumes were great. Somewhat formulaic, but some fun twists getting to the end. Quite a bit of gratuitous violence.

What can I say? I'm a huge Guy Ritchie fan.
One of the best buddy movies I've ever seen and I'm 55 years old and seen most of them. Great pace and action. Fun characters. I'd say Rachel McAdams is "eh" overall but she doesn't hurt the film. Would have liked an even saucier brunette in the role.
I read some of the criticisms that the spirit of Holmes in the movie is too action-oriented compared to the Holmes in the literature. Do I care? Should you? Heck no! See it and have a good time. I'm a Robert Downey fan, but Jude Law is even better in this movie.

Awesome movie. Holmes deductions in the end pulled the whys & hows together. I am anticipating the next movie with his nemisis Dr. Moriairty. Jude Law was an excellent choice for Dr. Watson.

The chemistry between Downey and Law is evident throughout the movie. I'd forgotten about Sherlock Holmes' powers of deduction until the movie reminded me. The only drawback was the English accents became very slurred sometimes and hard to understand.

This is probably one of the best movies you will see this year! Robert Downey Jr and the rest of the cast bring this movie to life and do it with style. It was brilliantly produced and the graphics are great! It is a great movie for the entire family or just for the two of you, with mystery, action, suspense, romance and a great story line, with the promise to a just as amazing sequel you will only be looking forward to the next when you are walking out of the theatre.
