Seeing previews and being a long time fan of Holmes and Watson, my first thought was they casting should have been reversed and that they were going to ruin the very name of Sherlock Holmes. That said, I enjoyed the movie very much. I was very pleasantly surprised with Downey's understated portrayal as well as the obvious affection Holmes and Watson had for one another. I was also impressed with the romantic side of Holmes which was also largely understated. All in all, I liked very much the interpretation of the characters.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
