Although the scenes in the slum are difficult, the basic humanity of the characters actually distracted from the horrible physical conditions to focus on the basic human nature of the children / adolescent / adult characters. Certainly one of the ten best films I've ever seen. Don't miss the end credits!

I saw this movie with a bit of suspicion. I was worried it was built up too much, and I would just be disappointed. That was very much not true. Despite the slightly cheesy ending, the path that it took to get there more than made up for it. The characters were engaging, the acting was amazing, the story was interesting and developed well, and kept moving. The music added just what was needed at just the perfect times as well.
It was a blunt and brutal look into the lives of people trapped in the Indian slums, and the horror that plays into their lives from both police and others trying to take advantage of their situation. This movie was one of the best that I've seen in a long time.

On Oscar weekend Sat. my wife and I pick several movies to see. This year we chose only 2 -- Slumdog and Benjamin (Brad Pitt).. Slumdog was amazing. Though 2 hours it kept our interest throughout. Very clever use of flashback. And the young actors were physically attractive and spot on in their acting. Hard to believe that this is their first movie. The dump scenes were hard to view. Yet we came away feeling that there is a lot of work to be done worldwide in solving the problem of poverty. Also it reminded us of just how blessed we are to have been born in the USA. .

This film is visually stunning and can only be fully appreciated by watching it on the big screen. The adapted screenplay had great flow and utilized the the common flashback technique in films in a new and exciting way. The flashback in this movie did what a flashback should: give the viewer important information, advance the story forward, and emotionally charge the current scene. This movie proves that GOOD FILMMAKING can accomplish what an overpaid Hollywood actor usually doesn't: make a film great! The mix of genres - from classic lovestory to the action adventure story, to the coming of age story -- was extremely effective without being confusing and kept you on the edge of your seat.

I didn't think it lived up to all it's hype. It was difficult to follow in the beginning, then too predictable, plus I had seen much of the surprises on talk show preview clips. The acting, on-location filming, and contrasts made this a great movie. I was particularly struck with the fact that apart from the leads, the characters used one another. The owners of the so-called orphanage had no compunction about abusing the street children for their own wealth. A gang member cared nothing about selling out his neighborhood to developers. One brother sold out to another. This made the integrity of the lead characters all the more stark and remarkable.

Overall this movie was a suspensful journey away from your typical "out of the box" American movie....it has excitement, dark elements, love, and triumph! Overall- loved the background music and editing- must be seen in a large theatre to capture the effect. I felt like I was actually in India!! it is a good movie, but best movie of the year. In my opinion no, I think Gran Torino was better. Slumdog was pretty predictable boy meets girl , boy loses girl ,boy gets girl back ;boy loses girl and gets her back again. The acting was believable and heart warming, but it did nor give me pause to think. Where as GranTorino made people think about personal relations and especially the ending about getting beyond self interest

This movie had me glued, I can't believe the acting of the children in the film and the story line had me guessing what would happen next.
I haven't stopped thinking about the poverty and those little boys since I left the theater.
