I went to see this movie knowing nothing about it at all. It was in limited release at the time. From the tiny bit I was told about it, I thought it would be awful. I was blown away. I walked out of the theatre in awe. It was the best movie I have ever seen. It was not the usual flashback movie. I was able to follow the entire movie and never lost track of what was going on, as is usual in flashbacks. I was so excited when it came to my town so that I can take my family to see it. I was not surprised at all when I heard it was nominated for best picture.

I didn't know what to expect, but I left after 2 hours that were well spent. I thought the editing and photography was excellent, and using flashbacks to explain the story was done in a novel way. The R rating is unnecessary. Maybe a PG 13. I would feel comfortable taking a teenager to this movie. It's movie that combines a number of classic tales: lost love; good vs evil; redemption. All told in a light, but not cloying fashion. Very good.

This is the best movie I've seen in a long while. Surely, it will garner a dozen Academy Award nominations.
While we've all seen flashback movies, this one stands out. The game show experience drives the back-story of the protagonist, which allows the viewer to see and feel the shaping forces of Indian society as it becomes industrialized, as well as how the change affects those who must deal with it to survive. And the ramifications of choices made.
Look for a dozen Oscar nominations for this film. There is so much substance here, it would require words way in excess of this review to discuss it all...

Slumdog Millionaire was such a well-told and brilliantly acted story. Everything from the screenplay to the acting to the editing was fantastic. All the elements came together brilliantly to enrapture the viewer so much that you don't even realize the movie is over two hours long. I'm not a big indy film person but this movie was sooo good. It's a rollercoaster ride; you are glued to your seat from the opening scene to the end credits. The musical score was top notch and the cinematography was absolutely brilliant. I'm not sure why they call it comedy though - it's more of an action/drama flick.
I absolutely loved this film and will be seeing it again in the next few days. Very highly recommended!!

I enjoyed the movie very much. It was a very realistic portrayal of life in India I think. I was just in India (Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim) last Aug/Sept. It looked just like the movie ... trash and open sewers - glad they don't have "smell-o-rama" at the movies because the whole country stinks. The people there are so nice though - just like the rest of the world, 99.9% are just like you or I and 1% are the scum of the earth...

Saw this movie with my 15-year-old daughter and we both really liked it. It's a big story - covers a lot of ground - but it moves quickly and is also fascinating to look at.

This movie has an interesting premise. In Mumbai (Bombay) a young man raised an orphan in the slums winds up on India's version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire". He improbably knows so many quiz answers that he is suspected of cheating. The unfolding of the movie shows how he came to know these factoids. A good and uplifting movie, but the rapid cuts and bombastic score is, frankly, assaultive. And India doesn't look very nice.
