This movie is a great example for families to show their kids how life in other countries is such a struggle. It also shows how being true to yourself and never to give up no matter what can reward you in many ways. Is the movie a bit predictable? Yes, but so worth it.

Very accurate portrayal of India and it's conditions. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen in years. 6 members of my family went together 2 weeks ago and we are still talking about it and referring it to friends. A little hard to catch all the Indian nuances and the accent can take a little getting used to as well, but stay with it, it's well worth it. We have Indian relatives and they have shed even more light on some of the situations in the movie and agree that is is a very accurate portrayal.

One of the best movies I have seen since "Amadeus!" Superb acting and direction. Loved the editing....especially, the way the editor moved back and forth in time. The storyline was amazing. What an uplifting story about family, friendship, loyalty, forgiveness, trust, truth and love! I was initially hesitant to see this film, but I was wrong! Judging by the rest of the reviews, I guess I am the only one whose life this movie did not change. It was okay. I was expecting something a little lighter and was not prepared for how dark the film is. Slumdog Millionaire developed a storytelling tecnique that keeps the audience's attention. You really can't look away from the graphic depiction of India's poorest sections as the background story develops. Although this movie was pretty good, it was not amazing as some have said. In fact, my theatre lightly appluaded afterwards. Its a well told story with some very good child performances but the love story and ending were unbelievable. The "insight" into the country's horrible conditions is important element and the cinematography is wonderful.

this movie have gotten so much hype that i had expected it to be spectacular. it was indeed a good movie and gave insights into the slums of india. it was a bit repetitive in the middle and predictable. i wished they played more off their childhood - growing up with a single mom, events leading up to the attack.
i've seen other india-based movies which did a better job in portraing the society. throughout the movie you do root for jamal and lakita.

Even though the movie shows a very bad side of Mumbai you come out of the theater smiling. It is a different love story that just makes you feel good. Great music and cinematography.

There are few movies that my wife and myself walk out on, This one almost made that list. After seeing it we know now that this movie is on our do not ever rent list. This is by far the worst movie we have seen in a long time. The only reason we went in the first place was on the suggestion of the employees of Harkins. How this move could be considered a comedy we do not know. It had a very shallow plot and a lot of violence.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I saw this first with a friend, then returned with my husband and teen daughters -- equally great the second time around. And all loved it. A very powerful, painful, but positive movie. Interesting visuals of India -- makes one want to know more about the country.
