I thought this was a great movie about our history that we never knew about. Whether all or most of it is true doesn't really matter, the fact that these people were able to survive for so long in a forest and fight for their lives is incredible. I felt the directors did a wonderful job portraying the message. I want to take my high school kids to it for a history lesson!

Defiance is an action-packed, dramatic, and gritty movie. It is also a well-paced movie. Kudos to the director for this... at moments of high intensity, bits of humor are injected to ease the tension in the theatre. This keeps the viewer from becoming overwhelmed by the plight of the characters. It also keeps them engaged during the 2 hour, 17 minute saga. Though the plot is as tragic as it is true, this is a story that needed to be told, and told well. Defiance does that.
The actors very skillfully take what could have easily turned into a series of corny, overacted scenes and weaved a brilliant story. Daniel Craig is masterful.

Defiance details one of those little pieces of history that is so localized only those connected with it would ever know about it without such a movie as this--rather like "Rob Roy," but more intense for it being so contemporary. Craig and Schriber excelled in their interpretation of the divergent differences in character of the two brothers who made this story happen. What a phenomenal piece of work!

This movie exceded all of my expectations. It was great from begining to the end. From the opening scene to the close it was full of action. Daniel Craig and Liev Schrieber were perfect. The only flaw was that the dialog kept jumping from English to Russian. Other than that it was GREAT!

I thought they did a good job on this movie. Don't listen to someone as ignorant as Dudek from New York. If anything, they sugar coated the "horrible and cruel conditions" that these people went through to survive. Historically speaking they left quite a bit out, but they still got the point across.

The story is incredible. That these people could survive such brutal conditions is a testament to the human spirit. The cinemetography & locations made me feel like I was actually there, in the forest, with these people. Craig & Schrieber were brilliant in their portrayals of common people tested by un-common situatiions. I especially liked the portrayal of the Russian bigotry towards their Jewish "comrades". A must see.

"Defiance" is just that: A large group of Jewish refugees defying the odds, the Nazis and their own anti-Semitic Russian brethren. The eventual feud between the two brothers, Daniel Craig and Liv Schreiber, is both regretable and understandable. They want what's best for their people, but by different means. It's not far-fetched to believe they could survive for two years in the forest: how many centuries did Native American Indians do it? Character development was poor in the beginning, but it kicked in later. In the end, you are left wondering if you were in those refugees' place, could you do what they did to survive? Well worth seeing.

I do not regret paying to see this movie, but it was truely a real disappointment. There was some action, but it was more of a feel good movie. great story, but found the movie over acted, stereotypical, and somewhat boring. Daniel Craig was totally miscast- I was waiting for him to pull out the martini glasses and have a whirl in his Lamborgini. The soundtrack was right out of Schindlers List. Cinemetography was very good, however.

Very much enjoyed this Zwick movie, which threads the needle between a human drama and an exciting war flick. The highlight - by far - was the fantastic performance by Liev Schriber. May see it a 2nd time!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The acting was great and the story was moving and inspiring. It is heartening that someone is finally showing that people did fight back, that the spirit was strong against overwhelming odds.

This movie should be mandatory viewing for high school students and up. It raises important questions about morality during war time and the ability to survive under the most appalling circumstances. Although brutal at times, this movie is life affirming. It also shares a very important history lesson about the German and the Russian treatment of the Jews during WW II. The acting took me completely by surprise. Although I was aware of Liev Schreiber's talents, it was Daniel Craig who blew me away. Who could have known from his rather flat performances as James Bond that he is capable of this level of depth in his acting? He deserves an Oscar nod for this performance.
