The point of Expelled is to show that scientists are being closed minded towards intelligent design as a possible theory. Scientists should have every right to scientific inquiry (As long as that inquiry doesn’t hurt someone else) EX: Kill millions of people for the good of humanity. Cough Cough Hitler!
Expelled proves that there is evidence enough to make intelligent design a plausible theory. It shows how Mr. Dawkins and people like him will go to any limit of fantasy in order to believe in the theory NOT FACT of evolution. Including say that there could have been an intelligent designer but that intelligent designer had to come about by Evolution. ??? You don’t have to have a PHD to know he’s just making that up. Even if we didn’t know it was ANTI-God Dawkins who just said that there is no way he could possibly know that. He’s just fibbing.
A lot of pro-evolutionists are saying Expelled is just a pro-creation or anti-evolution movie. First off that’s clearly not true but if there is some truth to that statement then stop hogging the microphone and give a anti-evolutionist a chance to talk. If you’re defending the truth and your facts are straight you don’t have to hide anything. If evolution is true then it doesn’t matter what an anti-evolutionist says because evolution will still be true. If evolution is just a huge enormous lie then my friend I would get up and I would do everything in my power to stop the anti-evolution from talking. Funny I think that’s exactly what’s happening. Either way the truth will set us free.

I found this movie to be sufficiently entertaining while being extremely informative. The movie begins by focusing on university professors and a member of the Smithsonian Science dept who are all fired or let go for either working on Intelligent Design, or in one case a professor was let go because she just acknowledged the existence of the theory of Intelligent Design in her class.
The movie then moves on to discuss that there are many flaws within Darwinism and how nobody within the scientific establishment will allow any sort of scholarly discussion or debate between Darwinism and Intelligent Design.
After that Ben goes on to discuss how Darwinism was the foundation for the philosophy behind the holocaust. He even visits a couple holocaust sites.
This movie is not the most entertaining film I've seen, but the message is very important and I encourage you to see it.

Ben Stein argues that since we have freedom in the U.S., scientists should be free to ask questions about the orgins of our universe and the validity of the theory of evolution. But that is not the case. This movie clearly details how some scientists are being fired, reprimanded, and blacklisted for mentioning the words "Intelligent Design." Other scientists are denied grant money by those in power who are staunch supporters of evolution. This is a well thought out movie that allows proponents of evolution to state their case and then presents evidence for Intelligent Design.

Expelled is a brilliant movie exposing the truth about what many would agree is the most important culture war issue of our day ... Darwinian evolution and its monopolistic position within science.
Based upon modern scientific discovery, Darwinism can no longer be legitimately defended scientifically so the Darwinian stronghold is attacking religon and Expelling any scientist who holds a view that would dissent from Darwinism.
Fascinating movie ... would recomend to everyone!

Expelled is a film about academia and the controversy over the idea of intelligent design. Many brilliant scientists have lost their positions for even mentioning intelligent design. There is no explanation for the sudden appearance for life, since 250 proteins are present in the most simple cell, which is itself, very complicated and unlike the simple box which Darwin had conceived. Scientists can find no evidence for more than changes within a species - Darwin didn't even define the word, "species." Interestingly, some scientists in the world community agreed that there is much less scientific freedom here in the United States than in certain other parts of the world. Some of the attempts at explaining the origin of life were actually laughable, involving lightening or mud on crystals; the most telling interview was one with Richard Dawkins, who conceded that there must have been some intelligence behind design - he clearly contradicted himself - he went on to say that the designer could have been aliens, but definitely not God, and how the aliens came into being he couldn't say. Ben Stein took us on a tour of the death camps, as Darwinism had been the rationale behind the goal of creating a master race. Darwin was quoted as actually advocating selective breeding and was a force behind eugenetics. This is definitely Ben Stein's editorial; he compares the wall of repression in the scientific community to the Berlin Wall. While some may claim that the movie was simply the creation story in new clothing, the audience at the Angelika gave it a resounding round of applause. Afterwards, we were discussing the movie, and were somewhat disappointed that Stein did not call the evolutionists on the the fradulent data which still appears in textbooks; According to Dr. Walter Brown, evolutionists have taught for over a century that as an embryo develops, it passes through stages that mimic an evolutionary sequence. In other words, in a few days an unborn human repeats stages that supposedly took millions of years for mankind. A well-known example of this ridiculous teaching is that embryos of mammals have “gill slits,” because mammals supposedly evolved from fish. Embryonic tissues that resemble “gill slits” have nothing to do with breathing; they are neither gills nor slits. Instead, that embryonic tissue develops into parts of the face, bones of the middle ear, and endocrine glands. Embryologists no longer consider the superficial similarities between a few embryos and the adult forms of simpler animals as evidence for evolution. Ernst Haeckel, by deliberately falsifying his drawings, originated and popularized this incorrect but widespread belief. Many modern textbooks continue to spread this false idea as evidence for evolution.
For over a century, studies of skulls and teeth have produced unreliable conclusions about man’s origin. Also, fossil evidence allegedly supporting human evolution is fragmentary and open to other interpretations. Fossil evidence showing the evolution of chimpanzees, supposedly the closest living relative to humans, is nonexistent. Stories claiming that fossils of primitive, apelike men have been found are overstated. It is now universally acknowledged that Piltdown “man” was a hoax, and yet it was in textbooks for more than 40 years. Before 1977, evidence for Ramapithecus was a mere handful of teeth and jaw fragments. We now know these fragments were pieced together incorrectly by Louis Leakeye and others in a form resembling part of the human jaw. Ramapithecus was just an ape.
The only remains of Nebraska “man” turned out to be a pig’s tooth. Forty years after he discovered Java “man,” Eugene Dubois conceded that it was not a man, but was similar to a large gibbon. In citing evidence to support this new conclusion, Dubois admitted that he had withheld parts of four other thigh bones of apes found in the same area. Many experts consider the skulls of Peking “man” to be the remains of apes that were systematically decapitated and exploited for food by true man. Its classification, The australopithecines, made famous by Louis and Mary Leakey, are quite distinct from humans. Several detailed computer studies of australopithecines have shown that their bodily proportions were not intermediate between man and living apes. Another study of their inner ear bones, used to maintain balance, showed a striking similarity with those of chimpanzees and gorillas, but great differences with those of humans. Likewise, their pattern of dental development corresponds to chimpanzees, not humans. One australopithecine fossil—a 31/2-foot-tall, long-armed, 60-pound adult called Lucy—was initially presented as evidence that all australopithecines walked upright in a human manner. However, studies of Lucy’s entire anatomy, not just a knee joint, now show that this is very unlikely. She probably swung from the treesp and was similar to pygmy chimpanzees. The australopithecines are probably extinct apes. For about 100 years the world was led to believe that Neanderthal man was stooped and apelike. This false idea was based upon some Neanderthals with bone diseases such as arthritis and rickets. Recent dental and x-ray studies of Neanderthals suggest that they were humans who matured at a slower rate and lived to be much older than people today. Neanderthal man, Heidelberg man, and Cro-Magnon man are now considered completely human. Artists’ drawings of “ape-men,” especially their fleshy portions, are often quite imaginative and are not supported by the evidence.

What a great movie! Expelled was definitely a movie that is a must see for people of all ages! I feel unfortunately that most younger crowds avoid such movies, and it is this age that needs to see it the most! Being that I'm 21 and can see first hand the damage the modern science movement has done to my generation I can honestly say that I wish they could all see this!
So the movie itself was very well made. It was not religion of any sort shoved down anyones throat, but rather it was forcing the modern science movement to understand that wall it has created. That it is in fact hypocritically asking for the freedom to research while refusing to give it in certain areas. The movie was also painfully moving as one scientist admits that the deeper he delved into Darwinism the more Atheist he became. He stated that if on is to truly understand and believe in Darwinism, one must give up religion, give up God, and give up any hope in life or afterlife. He completed his quote by saying he is ok with being in that mindset.
This movie reaches out to a lost and dying world with the hopes of getting a point across. It doens't force any religion of any nature onto anyone, but instead it forces the viewer to think. To think about what the negative effects of Darwinism are and how they have effected history in the past.
I would highly reccommend this to anyone! Anyone at all would find something important to gain here!

My oldest son, a college senior, and I went yesterday afternoon to see it and we both enjoyed it very much. Although it is a documentary, I thought it entertaining as well. I've come to appreciate Ben Stein over the years as an incredibly intelligent guy and this film only serves to solidify that thought. He does a great job of giving plenty of time to both viable "theories" of the origin of man; namely, the Darwinist evolutionary theory and intelligent design.
As I've had time to digest this film overnight, it's become increasingly fascinating to me that seemingly intelligent men and women of academia have such a steely grip on a theory (Darwin) that has never been proven and refuse to allow the existence of any other theory for either the origin of life or its continuance. That Richard Dawkins, a man whose agitation becomes so violent at the mere suggestion of the possibility of any other theory, would, in the last ten minutes of the film, concede that "intelligent design" is, in fact, plausible but only via the existence of "highly evolved beings" from outer space more than uncovers the curtain that shrouds this charade that continues to be presented as fact to our children. Wake up, people! Cheers and kudos to Ben Stein and the producers of this film who dare to boldly stand up and proclaim the "emperor's not wearing any clothes"! I encourage everyone to go buy a ticket and watch this film. It will further expose the "man behind the curtain" and, hopefully, allow open-minded thinking to thrive in our classrooms and bastions of higher education!

Ben Stein did a great job not getting lost in the back and forth of who is right and who is wrong and focused on the real problem. Science is no longer the freedom to challenge and debate theories but instead a political stage driven by perceived consensus and grant money.

If you are the type of person that enjoys monster truck races and demolition derbys more than political issues this movie is not for you.
I got quite a few main points out of this move. The main ponit being that if you don't teach what everyone wants to hear you will be black listed. I totally understand the connection to Darwinism and Naziism. For those that didn't follow it, it relates to natural selection. Hitler was simply trying to speed up naural selection by trying to rid the world of all "impurities". The problem with that theory is that we know that white, blonde haired, blue eyed people are part of recessive genes. So it is a weak link in the gene pool.
Another point is that censorism exists. This time here it isn't so much with the government, But with colleges being afraid for people to speak their beliefs. The government tends to do it by censoring books out of schools. Now, I haven't heard of this too recently but it does exist. The old saying goes, "they don't gotta burn the books, they just remove them"
One point that was proposed to me is that creationism and intellegent design are similar but different concepts. Creationism has a presence of god, but intellegent design has the concept of someone made the first cell. Darwinists refute this to the end, but if you pay attention the guy at the end says that "someone may have planted a seed" which would be part of Intellegent design. Yet, he's such a proponent of intellegent design. The problem is that we will never know how anything happened. Wether someone created an organisim or not. Life had to start some how and that some how had to start some where and so on. The debate will never end.
How many times has science been wrong?
-Of corse the earth is flat
-watch out for y2k, the world will end because of computers
-Drinking silver nitrate is helpful
and so on.
If you like debate and can stay awake long enough to watch this movie (about 5 people fell asleep during it) It's worth seeing. It has alot of good points but you need to pay attention to understand. Go in with an open mind and decide for yourself.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I'm in a technical field (MS from MIT), and an acquaintance who is a chemist at a very large company told me that if he detects that a candidate he is interviewing for a position is a "YEC" (his term) he would not want to hire that person regardless of any relevant previous experience and work she might have!
We used to call that religious discrimination! I'm amazed we live in a day when he felt safe to openly state that policy without any shame (or fear).
An excellent and much needed documentary about a significant freedom that is being taken away before our eyes by iron-fisted scientists and educators. We should be able to have peacable and rational debates about whether scientific evidence "proves" that the Bible is a lie. As Ben Stein asks, "Are we still free to disagree about the meaning of life?"

Ben Stein's research was appreciated and needed. I have read many books documenting events, places, and people of the Bible. The majority of the events, places, and people of the Bible have been archaeologically proven. Darwinism was/is a theory with no proof. Stein's questions to the darwinists were answered with "it could have, what if, suppose, some believe, I think." None offered concrete proof. When pushed, the darwinists became defensive. They insisted they had answered a question when they had not answered the question and became annoyed when pushed. None could come close to explaining what happened before "something evolved" without clinging to a guess.
Stein's patience was impressive. Even when physically present in the places of horror for his Jewish lineage, he was calm and professional in the face of people who still believe the inhumanitarian treatment was justified. The harshest words in this segment, unneeded eaters, (unneeded might not be the right word), would have been so insulting for a Jewish person and his face and tone remained that of a professional researcher. Stein could have asked if these unneeded eaters were eating undeserved food prior to their capture when they were involved in successfull productive jobs and contributing positively to society.
Stein has placed a "burden of proof" on the shoulders of the Smithsonian, the halls of academia, atheists, religion bashers, and darwinists. I would like to see these people rise to the occasion.
If anyone wants to read proof of Bible events, places, people, Josh McDowell's "Evidence that Demands a Verdict" is a great place to start. He started out as an atheist and became a believer.
I give darwinists no credit. Darwin himself started with a theory but never proved it. None of his followers, his believers, (is darwinism a religion, is he a god?) have attempted concrete proof. Is intelligence based on adopting a theory and expounding upon that theory without any facts? Darwinists want only to have us buy in to what they preach. They are demanding "faith" in their theories while bashing the faith of those who believe in a Creator. My belief system encourages believers to question, study, and research.
Connection to the beliefs of darwinism through film footage and music was impressive. This connection is appropriate with world problems today.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

It's not like Ben Stein made those evolutionists say those things. The first cells formed on the backs of crystals? They were seeded on Earth by an alien race? Before seeing this movie I read numerous scathing reviews and expected Michael Moore-style brainlessness. I came away impressed by the interviews Stein compiled of tried-and-true evolutionists who admit they don't really understand life's origins but expect us all to rule out the possibility of a Creator anyway -- all on their say-so.

This is not an entertaining movie. In fact it is a disturbing movie. It is a movie that makes you think; a movie that forces discussion; a movie that might even make you want to write an essay.
Though nominally about the conflict between Darwinists and Creationists the actual subject is much darker. It is about the rejection of the Enlightenment by those who would substitute enforced adherence to orthodoxy for critical thinking and Reason, and do so in the name of science.
Science involves skepticism about the common wisdom. It is about asking questions and testing hypotheses. You posit a theory and invite everyone to try and knock it down. That's the essence of the Scientific Method.
Increasingly, however, we are being told that we cannot question the scientific "consensus." Consensus is about politics not science. Science is about the freedom to explore, to ask questions and not to accept an answer simply because it is held by a certain number of influential people.
What Ben Stein is actually examining in his inquiry into why some scientists have had their careers destroyed for questioning the prevailing orthodoxy is not whether the universe created itself out of nothing, or if there is an underlying intelligence. Rather he is raising a red flag to the erosion of individual freedom as we are faced with a growing list of things we can't do, can't talk about and are not allowed to even think about.
It took guts to make this movie.

This is NOT an epic drama, science fiction, action, or love story-- it is a very well presented "thinking persons" sojourn through the questions surrounding the concept of freedom, freedom of association, and open discord within the science community about the calloused, hard, secular view of science by the scientific community, and the lack of willingness to engender the concepts of freedom in allowing full and open debate about intelligent design, Darwinism, evolution and whether-or-not any or all of these "theories" are fundamentally flawed. This is an excellent movie (although probably not for young children--they wouldn't understand it) and I'd recommend it for both sides of the ID / Darwinism debate to see.

EXPELLED is a movie about freedom. Freedom to choose - life or death - blessing or cursing. It was really funny at times, because you see antiquated footage when interviewing scientists who explain what happened to them when opening opportunities for discussion on intelligent design. The scientists that hold fast to the theory of evolution are very entertaining in their attempts to sound intelligent, especially Dawkins. (I do agree with the scientists that talk about religion in a negative way, religion is in fact not good. Religion is man's attempt to reach God the intelligent designer. God desires relationship, friendship. Any true friendship has no strings attached. It is a mutuality of getting to know and love one another. We usually treat friends better than family. A relationship with God/Jesus/Holy Spirit is a good experience.) The intelligent designer is good, He is alive, He is IAM. In the final portion of the film when Dawkins proudly reads his explanation of God, I felt so badly for him. More than likely a religious experience hurt his inner man, his real man, his spirit, and he has never been able to see God the Father as good. The god that he is really talking about in his book is the god of this world, but he doesn't know that yet. My prayer is that Dawkins might spend the remaining years of his life truly investigating and searching for the God that I KNOW. One evolutionist scientist interviewed is dying of a brain tumor, I feel sad for him, soon he will know the truth, but then it will be too late. This particular scientist expounds that we don't have free will, I didn't get that at all, because he has most assuredly freely chosen what he believes. Finally, I believe it takes more faith and effort to believe in the evolution of man, than it takes to believe in an intelligent designer. Ultimately those that choose evolution do so because they want to be god of their own life and be accountable to no one.

The battle of ideas is far more important than most people would think. This movie deals with the danger of theories becoming a god or religion, the very aspect so feared by those promoting evolution. The result is a shutting down of opposing viewpoints. Ben Stein, with a sense of humor, presents the need of freedom of thought and theory in science. Looking back in history reveals the need to see the far reaching effect of what we believe.
My only criticism is that in promotion of this movie the humor expected is overplayed. It is more a serious film. Ben Stein does an excellent job, however, in presenting this serious concern with levity that makes the movie entertaining.
The contrast of the past with the present gives depth to the importance of this movie in our time. I appreciate the concern that called Ben Stein to make this movie and would recommend it to everyone as one worthy of seeing.

Some will see this movie as pro-creation or anti-evolution. This is not the case. What the movie demonstrates very effectively is the irrational fear of "mainstream" scientists that Intelligent Design theories necessarily implicate God, and therefore threaten the hegemony that atheistic science has over academia.
Suppression of serious questions and censorship of unpopular ideas is the mark of religious totalitarianism. And this movie has profound implications for the way in which the elites of society - who were champions of freedom before they became the establishment - are trampling on free speech and free thought in the name of Truth. If you are concerned about what is happening to freedom in this country, and what it could mean, don't miss this movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The only thing clumsy about the movie was the narcicist Dawkins laughable attempt at explaining how life began. Basically, highly evolved aliens spread the "seeds" for life many moons ago, before there were moons, I guess. Of course this betrays Mr. Dawkins ultimate committment, and that is a spiritual one, rather than scientific. While he and his ilk are quick to point to events in Genesis as pure fantasy, when faced with the absolute need for a Designer they are willing to turn to the Sci Fi channel for their ontology. This is an excellent movie that shows not only the viciousness of the Darwinian establishment, but the fragility of the theory itself. Many brilliant scholars have done fascinating and complex work on a foundation, that as it turns out is more and more suspect. And when pushed to answer the most basic question about first life the chief "apostle" for Darwinian theory today reverts to "panspermia"! One must be educated into such imbecility!

My wife and I found this movie mildly entertaining and very informative. We have marveled at the fact that seemingly no one questioned the obvious gaps, assumptions, false premises leading to false conclusions in the Theory of Evolution. We would recommend this movie to anyone who has questions and would like know why there is no alternative theory being expressed inside academia.
This movie points fingers and exposes people who are smart enough to know better and should be the leaders in examining all theories instead of defending a flawed theory by excluding all other theories from the debate by declaring the debate over.

I enjoyed Ben's blend of off-beat humor, intelligence and cynicism in the past. In this movie, all that is combined with beautiful photography, clever use of old newsreel and movie clips, and a poignant historical sense of loss of freedom. It brought to mind the old phrase that "the pen is mightier than the sword". It is a dangerous movie in that it questions deeply entrenched ideas about what ideas may be safely questioned.

This movie is a very well done, thought provoking piece that calls attention to the taboo of ID in the scientific community. Ben Stein explores the stigma of Intelligent Design thinkers faced within Scientific Academia by those in charge. Unlike what user Samwest3 has put into his review title, this is a straight call FOR objectivity on both sides of the concept presented in the movie. Like Ben says in the movie, if your with the prominent thought in science today, you can be as objective as you want, provided that you stay on that side. Guess we know which side Samwest3 is on. Also, user samwest3 obviously didn't catch the concept of Darwinism and "Forced" Darwinism before concluding that the movie portrayed Darwin as evil. It does not, only that science has a lot more to say than what Darwin proposed, and one side of that is being left out.

This movie sheds light on a strong movement by scientist and higher powers to crush anyone in the scientific field who considers ID a viable theory.
The movie explores the root cause of the passion people have behind the subject of ID. Maybe this battle isn't really what it seems on the surface....hmmm. Watch and see for yourself.
Some comparisons were made to a closed minded scientifc community being like the surpressive German's and their quest for a surrival of the fittest race. You might find it reaching - maybe it is a bit. But, if people embrace the theory of evolution in all its glory, then a race that helped nature along with what was natural anyway is not too far out of scope. (Lacking morals and an overall sense of eternal consequences makes things like this happen easier- I suppose...)
One character in the movie insinuated that God is like a fairytale - a made-up magic if you will... Seems to me that science that we can't understand can be called just that when it's beyond our grasp of understanding. Perhaps God himself is Science in it's full glory?
Conclusion:
This movie will make you think about your stance on things. It exposes an unbalanced scale in our country... It's like there is an undercurrent of surpressive control.
Personal thoughts:
If you consider yourself a true scientist, then give equal weight to theories until you prove them wrong. If you argue that there is not proof of God, consder accepting there is a God for science sake. Then ask how He did things? The human design is complex, amazing, and beyond intelligent. ID is not a copout, it's the missing link.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Besides the fact that I wish Ben Stein was a six-day creationist, it's well worth the ticket. It's exciting to be part of the this revolution. We must speak out and break down that wall. Dawkins is one evil dude. He'd like to see us dead in a ditch. Let's spread the Word y'all.

Ben Stein wouldn't have to speak at all, the words of the opposition speak of their own demise in this clever, entertaining, and well-resourced documentary. WARNING: do not see this movie if you don't feel like being challenged. The discussion is deep, yet Ben Stein's humor will keep you enrapt to the very end.
