Absolutely loved --- thought the music was really great especially the solo by Asher Book who did an outstanding job in general but nailed the song - Try -- which for me was the best song of the movie --have seen it twice already --- should be a smash hit - thought the young talent did an amazing job!!! I grew up on the original series and this movie lived up to my expectations. It was entertaining with great talent from the cast and funny moments and sad moments that made you wanna pull out the kleenex. Plan on getting it when it comes out on DVD.

Very good movie. Doesn't really stick to the plot line of the original, but the plot lines developed are interesting. Definitely shorter than the original, too - thank goodness! Plan to buy when released on video.

This movie has a variety of dancing and music that is absolutely spectacular. High energy throughout the film. Naturi Naughton makes the movie with her great remakes of songs from the original film as well as some new songs. With Naturi's amazing talents showcased in this film you can expect to see her in future projects. I agree with some of the other critics that the film has a very loose plotline but it doesn't matter because you are so caught up in the stunning musical performances. You will definitely, in my opinion, leave this film with a very good feeling. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Fame(2009)" is a mild reboot of the successful 1980's television show that started Debbie Allen. The actors are extremely talented. The music was great and the dancing off the hook. I don't feel that the acting abilities of the young actors was really tested. There were so many stories on-going in the movie that there wasn't enough time for each story to unfold and then see the conclusion. You are left to wonder what might be or in some cases what might have been. The movie did not live up to the Trailers.

Fame failed to live up to the hype, the t.v. program, and the original film in every way except for the casting of the instructors at P.A. The writing was painfully inept and there was not a single developed character or relationship in the whole film. The few incidents of conflict were fleeting, at best. To make it worse, the directing was weak and many of the teen actors left much to be desired. I would steer clear of this film as it is best described as "Unrealized Potential" in every way.

The singing, music and dancing numbers were as impressive as one would expect. But the movie's format was wholly unconventional--rather than focusing on a few key characters in the classic, 3-act approach (introducing them, showing adversity and then showing resolution), the film focused on more like 10 characters. Time was shown passing primarily by the use of captions on a black screen ("FRESHMAN YEAR", "SOPHOMORE YEAR", etc.).
Most disappointing was that given the large cast, we never get to know any character well; the adversity depicted also seems less-than-convincing.
Asher Brooks and Naturi Naughton shine, and so does Kherington Payne, although Payne definitely comes across as a woman among children.

Fame was a great movie! i absolutely LOVED the dancing, the costumes, the singing, the music being played, and i loved the scene in the beginning where they start making music and singing in the cafeteria! The only thing i did not like about fame was it jumped between highschool years without giving much information. You never really go into depth about any of the characters, you see the problem...but you never see what happens afterwards OR the resolution to the problem. Technically There isn't even a real story line to the movie because it jumps from character to character (which is fine) except that you don't know much about any of them.

This has very, very loud music, particularly the drums. But the wide variety of music itself is good, just partially plug your ears. The story has little substance and the characters and their stories are not developed well. I saw the original movie in junior high and watched the TV series in high school. (Didn't see the TV series update in grad school though). I wanted to like this and went to go see it before being inundated with reviews. The original characters were so iconic and the challenges seemed more palpable. However, none of the new students stood out for me, their stories didn't feel fleshed out--sometimes imitating or weakly echoing the original. Rather than just echoing the past, I would have liked had they directly addressed how things are different now. At one point the filmmaking character mentioned YouTube. What about reality shows and competitions? Cable? The Internet?

I personally found the movie to be mediocre. There wasn't much plot to it, and I did not like how it covered all 4 yrs they were at the school. Not nearly as good as the original. Acting was decent, but I wish they would have stayed in the school more--subplots diverged a bit too much. My child goes to a performing arts school, so her peers thought it was fun. Think of it on the same level as "High School Musical" or the new TV show, "Glee."

Fame was a very entertaining movie and had great performers. The whole plot was revolved around how hard it is to become famous. I mean Im pretty sure everyone realizes this already. Some of the actors were great and others were horrible. I understand that its hard to find multiple triple threats (singers, dancers, and actors) but some of the acting was Disney Channel material.

There is absolutely no plot in this movie, it is hard to understand why the stories are crossing. The music may be interesting, but really I can watch better stuff on American Idol finals. Don't leave home to watch this superficial trash.

It is hard sometimes to put distinct storylines in musical type movies. This was produced more for entertainment than drama although it did have brief dramatic moments. Talent presented was incredible especially during the jam session. Ending was antii-climatic.

Sometimes it is hard to re-invent a hit from the past. The musical performances were incredible and kept the movie alive for me. The actual story line was average at best and in my opinion did not represent life in New York's School of Performing Arts.
