Leonardo, Kate and Kathy Bates are fabulous actors. Great drama but,...........I expected more. Was waiting throughout the film for something more to happen. I must have missed something and just can put my finger on my mixed emotions. I liked it but something was missing.

This is a powerful film, from script to performance to direction and editing. But it is not for anyone who finds domestic conflict... more than conflict... war ... upsetting. Yes, I'd recommend it to friends, but on a selective basis. Kate, Leonardo, and the entire cast are superb. However, as the relationship escalates, I found myself wanting to call "time out," and go out for a breath of fresh air. It's intense and it is exciting movie making.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The movie world is blessed right now with many actresses that exhibit incredible depth and range but lately with The Reader and Revolutionary Road Kate Winslet has "kicked it up a notch". Winslet, DiCaprio & director Mendes give us something special as they shine a spotlight on the human condition at it's core: the battle between our most selfish natures and our God-given opportunities to get beyond ourselves to love more, give more and be something greater than super-intelligent animals with opposable thumbs. A well-told fable of true human conflict seen struggling with the serpent's whisperings. A mirror that reflects all of our desires for a "revolution". You will be thinking about it well after you have left the theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Partaking of a 21st century retrospective of American life in the late 1950s -- as does the riveting AMC TV series "Madmen" -- this film evokes many of the same perspectives about conventional gender roles of that era, expectations about work, the acceleration of "gray flannel suit" corporate existence, omnipresent booze and cigarettes, etc. But it does so with an exceptional emotional intensity, with brilliantly nuanced performances, beautifully photographed but without the obtrusiveness of "beautiful cinematography": the technical proficiency becomes eclipsed by the compelling overall experience.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

If you are looking for a pick me up, feel good story this one isnt for you. The acting in this movie is top notch as you would expect. Some may not like the story but I think we can all see a little of ourselves in either character. Excellent movie.

As I write this review, I almost forgot the name of the movie...or wished I had.
The movie was boring. Maybe I missed the point. I just don't know. This is a story about a young couple that lived in a rural town whom seemed to be bored. I sat through this movie knowing vary well that something great would magically happen, however, it never did.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I just downloaded the novel for this movie onto my Kindle and I get what the actors in this piece mean when they rave about it. It's a perfect companion to this very powerful movie.
I want to know more about these characters and from page one I see them deeply.
That said, the movie is great. It's not a date movie but it's wonderful.
BRAVO Kate, Leo, Kathy Bates, Sam M. and all....

Revolutionary Road was a collection of boring 1950's suburban US clichess with over the top acting by two hugely overrated actors. The pretentious, ponderous, and predictable editing, set design, and music made this movie not only bad but nearly unwatchable. Go watch Far From Heaven or the first season of Mad Men to see how a story about a 1950's Connecticut marriage should be done.

A few years ago I made the mistake of moving to Sleepy Hollow, NY. I swear I felt as if I were watching the lives of the idiots that live there. These situations are still the same out in the burbs of NYC. The drinking is still there - BIG TIME. Bored, drunken, Volvo driving idiots. Meth mom and closted dads. Fantastic lives,

What a bunch of losers! I gave it 3 stars only because I loved KW and LD, though they did overact in several scenes. But too much whining and misery. This neurotic woman and story went against everything I believe. You choose happiness; you do not chase it. And as opposed to the protagonist in "The Women's Room", which I loved, this woman had NO love for her children AND she had a semi-decent husband who truly loved her, though I can't imagine why.
I expected the movie to be much better. They must have left a lot of scenes left on the editing room floor as there should have been more character development during the missing years. How did they get from point A to point B? Let us SEE more of that. Don't just yell about it.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Sam Mendes has done it again. The last time I saw a perfect film was when I watched AMERICAN BEAUTY. Every angle was expertly done. I read the book and this was an incredible adaptation. Kate and Leo get better with age. They both interpreted the characters skillfully. I could feel every emotion by just watching their eyes. Revolutionary Road deserves the Oscar for Best Picture.

Pardon me, but I feel there should be more action in a movie than booze being poured. These non-characters did little more than quarrel and drink. And why was there a lamp on the kitchen counter? Could you care about these no-dimensional characters? I don't see how.

A simple ordinary housewife of the 50's bares to reveal true complexities of living the rules --for free spirits. A prison of apron strings and napkin folds build suspense.
Kate is brilliant in keeping questions alive, in shifting gears and persona faster than predictable.
Compare to Changeling where AJ delivers intensely provoked by obvious dark external forces. Admirable acting, but it feels like acting.
In RR, Kate spans an intense range. The dark forces are less obvious but spring from within. She doesn't act it:. She breathes the story.
None of it works without Leo's match range of counterpoint exchanges that dance throughout.
Segue: Her brief & fierce dance scene with "Shep" rivals Travolta's turn in PF.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Great performances, skilled camerawork and excellent source material provide the backbone for this 50's period drama about life in the suburbs. The characters' emotions are overblown in a scene or two, but this is a very good film overall. Intellectually stimulating without being emotionally manipulating. Highly recommended for those who want more out of the holiday season than puppy tales and bedtime stories.

If you see Revolutionary Road for no other reason, go for the performance. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio showed incredible passion, emotion, and rage unlike anything you are likely to see this year,
Michael Shannon, who plays the emotionally ill son of of Cathy Bates, is the conscience of the film, and his two scenes are both the funniest, and scariest in the entire film. If you haven't seen this guy in "The Bug," then you owe yourself that pleasure. This may not be film of the year, but Kate and Leo should be right up there with best actor awards. A must see!!

Excellent film, beautifully crafted, very true depiction of life in the 50s,but quite depressing about what can be termed the “quiet desperation” of a marriage. I’m sure there were a lot of couples in the audience feeling quite uncomfortable sitting next to one another while thinking about their own lives.

I saw a screening of this film yesterday. Kate Winslet gives a reallly powerful performance. It's a complicated role and she is able to pull it off. Leonardo DiCaprio is great as well. But it's Kate's movie. The director is her husband. But I credit her with the hard work of bringing this charactor to life.
The movie is challenging and disturbing. But it's important. I wonder if I should have read the book first. It seems like such a seminal work about an era but also about issues that we still face.
The era is represnted well by director Sam Mendes. It is a gritty reality that has it's charms. But it is not one we've come to expect from other period 50's films. I encourage you to see it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
