I saw a screening of this film yesterday. Kate Winslet gives a reallly powerful performance. It's a complicated role and she is able to pull it off. Leonardo DiCaprio is great as well. But it's Kate's movie. The director is her husband. But I credit her with the hard work of bringing this charactor to life.
The movie is challenging and disturbing. But it's important. I wonder if I should have read the book first. It seems like such a seminal work about an era but also about issues that we still face.
The era is represnted well by director Sam Mendes. It is a gritty reality that has it's charms. But it is not one we've come to expect from other period 50's films. I encourage you to see it.
