I have not read any of the books, therefore I cannot compare the movie to them. However, the movie was over all very good. The Deathly Hallows is darker than previous movies in this series. It dragged out in a couple of places but the ending really left you hanging. I now really have to see the last movie! It is not for the very young -- I think the MPAA rating is not far off on this one.

Our family enjoyed this film. As the main characters age, their relationships have become more sophisticated and nuanced. You get to spend some time with the leads as human beings. The dance is charming. We also loved the story of the Three Brothers. Of course there are still wonderfully scary moments and excellent villains!

When a book is turned into a movie, the most common criticism is that the film is not being true to the book. You just can't say that about this movie. Because it sticks to the written story, it is a bit slow and at times verges on being boring. This is no children's magical fantasy. It is dark and depressing, which is what J.K. Rowling intended as Harry and his friends face the world turned upside down and governed by evil. The acting is well executed. I recommend it, but be prepared for something unlike the other Potter movies. Ultimately, I can't wait until July 2011 when the final movie is released.

Honestly, as a Harry Potter fan from the very beginning, I feel as if this is one of the best movies. It goes along with the book very well. Anybody who read it knows that the first half of it was kind of stretched out and boring. But they put it into a movie fantastically. It isn't a horror movie at all, but the rating is correct because there are some lovey-dovey and scary parts. I actually cried when one of the main characters died. It was perfect. I cannot wait for Part 2 to see what they have done with it!

2 and 1/2 hours went by fast- even my 5 y/o sat through most of it w/out complaining- that is a true test whether a movie was boring or not. There are a few parts where he jumped, but over-all it wasent too scarey for him. Looking forward to seeing the 2nd part.

I absolutely loved the movie and while it was difficult remembering lots that happened in the book having read it so long ago, I was able to recall and even know ahead of time what was happening as the movie went along. I loved that along with the drama there was lots of humor too. The almost 2.5 hours sped by; it didn't feel like I had been watching the movie for as long as I was. That had to have meant that it was totally enjoyable! The special effects, as usual, were amazing. It has become a tradition to attend with the entire family; and it didn't let us down!

I haven't read the books, but have followed the movies. Although there were some moments in the first half of the film that dragged a bit, I thought the narrative moved along well overall. Visually strong and imaginative, even if the dialogue was a bit prosaic or predictable.
If you are looking for a stand-alone story (beginning, middle, end), you've come to the wrong place. But it serves its purpose well enough -- an installment seeing up the final conflict.

The movie is pretty good, with the exception that it is too long. It should have been shortened by at least a 1/2 Hr as there were to many drawn out scenes. Long after the mood/feeling/point were made it just stalled.
I give it a 7.0 out of 10 overall.

Suspenseful! We were on the edge of our seats and holding our breath even though we read the book and knew what was going to happen! The visual aspect of the movie was fantastic. We were taken along with the characters as though we were part of their journey; both the good times and the bad times. Though this may be the darkest edition to the Harry saga, it is the best one yet. July cannot come fast enough!!!!

I was pleasantly amazed at the development of the this movie. I generally judge the quality of a movie by whether I look at my watch during the showing. This film FLEW by, a roller coaster ride, and I was surprised that it was finished before I'd ever looked at my watch! Excellent!

The actors act better and the movie conveys the hopeless situation convincingly. The special effects are certainly special but amidst them, the characters shine through. One can read into the situation symbolism of oppressive regimes current and past, if desired. Some parts are unsuitable for kids of 10-12-years and younger, as the rating implies.
Now we have to wait a year for the final installment.

The movie was overly long and I felt they could have condensed the last book into one movie. There were a lot of lulls in the movie that did not need to be there. Harry Potterfiles will no doubt like this movie, but on it's own it wasn't very good. Effects were ok, but not great. Bottom line it seemed like they made two movies out of one book to make extra money, not because it was actually needed.

As the movies have come out the original readers have grown older. This movie isnt for you 7 year old brother. It is dark and not childish like the first 2 movies. I'm not sure if there will be a reason to live after part 2 comes out.

Without giving away any of the plot, it's every bit what is said about it ...it's fantasic ...darker, more grown-up & evolved characterization, lots of action & wonderful special effects but keep in mind that this isnt the end so expect the cliff hanger at the end ..this is definitely the foundation to what will happen next
