Why the critics trashed this movie is beyond me! It was great! My kids, they thought the same! The colors were so bright, and it was just, WOW! Sure, there were a few curse words, and a bird, but, that doesn't mean that this movie should get a 1 star rating from the reviewers on here. If you look at the reviews, that was the main complaint. So, if you have good taste, and a need for speed, then Speed Racer is the right movie for you!

I'm going to explain to you throughout this review why I gave this film four stars but did not recommend it. I want to start off by saying that I love the casting, the trippy, Tim Burtonesque visuals, the satisfying races, and John Goodman but I don't think other people will. I have to say this is a really, really weird movie. Sometimes I would look around at the other people to see if they just saw what I saw. In my opinion its a very artistic film that will most likely enjoy a cult following but hardly any mainstream fans.

I saw this film in IMAX. I disliked the IMAX presentation only a bit. The picture was letterboxed so the original aspect ratio could be retained in an IMAX screen. Due to this and sitting at one of the front rows, I had to constantly look up at the screen. At times, the movie seemed slow and lacking entertainment. There was too much foul language for a movie targeted at children, even a character gave someone "the finger". The CGI was also chessy, maybe on purpose. The Wachowski Bros. should stick to the Matrix.

I remember when I was a little girl. My dad would pop in a Speed Racer video in the VCR, and my family would watch it for hours! This movie brought back so many happy memories. And unlike most films, these people didn't completely change everything in the movie! Same old Speed. I would see it again and again! Please go see it! You will not regret it! My wife and I took our four year old who had been pestering us for the past couple of weeks. The theater was full of other families with kids and the two hours was just too long for them. Good movie, lots of action, and visually exciting. Our son leaned over during the movie and asked what was all the talking about, he wanted to see the racing. Good movie though.

I took my 2 grandchildren to see this movie and they loved it and I also thought it was well done and exciting. I enjoyed the combination of digital graphics and the bright color schemes. The races were exciting to watch and the futuristic race track was wild.

I went with my two children, 5 and 6, thinking I would get a good nap in however I was entertained throughout as were my children. Very visually stimulating. The only negative was the lenght of the movie. If it was intended for children, a movie over 2 hours is too long.

I took my kids to see this movie and they sat through the whole thing without getting up or making any noise. They were glued to the screen, I say that speaks for itself!! As a person who remembers the cartoon, I really enjoyed the movie and thought they did a great job with the special effects and there was actually a plot.

I went with my 45 year-old brother. We both loved it. For those of us who grew up with the cartoon, we understand that this is a well-done film based on a terrible old anime cartoon that we sat and watched without fail. Sure the story is not complicated. This is more of a Japanese action flick than anything American, but the cast, the action and effects are made in the U.S.A. The racing was riveting-the best I have ever seen in a motion picture.

The statement I hear the most from folks is, "I watched it a little when I was a kid, but I just didn't get into it that much".
Toss all of that out the window, and see this movie as a standalone Fun, Exciting story, with great, fast moving scenes. It has just the right edge of fantasy, to give you the feel that extraordinary things will happen. Some of the scenes will take your breath away lol!

I realize the rating on this movie was PG-13 but it was strongly marketed to kids under 13 years old, which prompted my daughter and her friends to go and see it. Unnecessarily, the movie used the "A.." word 11 times, H..., D... and S... This added nothing to the movie but rather took away a lot, including the innocence of kids. Speed Racer was a very strange movie in many ways. The colors were almost a bit too much and the tone and pace of the movie was odd. There was a lot of goofy scenes of attempted humor and then there were some very serious scenes. It was better than I expected yet it was not a very good movie.

I think the bad reviews from the critics are just due to them not "getting" this movie. One has to realize it's based on a kid's cartoon, and the Wachowski bros. do an excellent job of adapting it to live action. I get the premise, and I get what their intentions were with the hyper-colorful look and hyper-moving action sequences. It's definitely a car racing movie unlike any we've ever seen before, and I give props for the groundbreaking, original, and imaginative racing sequences. Additionally, the story has heart, the acting is superb, and the comic relief from Spridle and Chim-chim was great.

I do not know what the critics are talking about. I went with my 5 yr old, and we had a blast. Excellent movie when you allow your imagination to flow. Once the movie got going we were hooked. I took two 7 year old boys to this movie and they ablsolutely loved it. They were laughing out loud and so excited all the way through the movie. It did have a few bad words and 1 bad gesture, but my boys didn't catch the words but they did catch the gesture. As an adult it was enjoyable, but seemed a bit long. The visuals and special effects were different and enough to hold my attention. All in all a good family movie.

Although I was seriously dreading having to see this movie, the kids insisted. I was truly surprised at how much I liked it! Very entertaining, kids sat through the long length, adults liked the little "homages" to the old cartoon series.

My 4.5 year old son and I went to this movie, high hopes, and they were fufilled!! We loved the movie, he loved the action parts and the cars and I loved getting to learn all about the characters again! I loved that Trixie and Speed finally kissed, that is something I wished for a long time!! The filming was great, loved the way it all flowed and it reminded me of the way the show was drawn all those years ago. The story line was as goofy as it was then too, so it made it all the more believeable for me!!
